It's a 57. What else?

Workhorse! It's just bloody everywhere and i never seen a broken one in my 25+ years on the road. I am pretty sure that they have been used as (***) toys on various occasions as well . And the next day back on stage again...

Reliable microphone

I bought the first sm57 for a guitar amp. Sounded naturally compared to other tested microphones. Later bought them more. I use them for guitar, saxophone, and drums. Never disappointed.

There's a reason it's so widely used.

I can't say much that isn't already written on the internet about this mic. It's pretty versatile so it can be integrated into most setups. I've tried it on several different instruments and the quality varies sometimes with very deep orchestral instruments but overall I'd definitely recommend it.

Versatile, Well Built, 1st Mic

My 1st microphone I've ever purchased.

Use it to record drums, some vocals, guitar, sometimes bass.

Love the versatile, all round nature of the microphone.

Excellent choice for 1st microphone!

Good old classic mic

There is not much to be said about this mic that hasn't been said already.

Easy to use, robust, sounds good.

For people just starting to record this should be the best mic to buy because it sounds good on all the instruments and even vocals and is the cheapest industry standard mics you have.

Even if you decide you don't need it later, you can easily sell it for the similar price that got it.

Great for a beginner

1st mic I bought to mic up a cab, it gets the job done, its industry standard gear and its used in every recording studio under the sun, no complaints here! :)

Classic

There is not really much to add. This is an all time classic piece of gear. Great sound, great quality, built for ages.

Excellent sound and quality build

I've been delighted with this product. I use it in front of either a guitar amp or bass amp, and it gives great results. Haven't tried recording from it yet (soon hopefully), but definitely pleased with it when using it for live music. Good value for money!

Exactly what you would expect from an SM57

Have it for more than 2 years and have no problem whatsoever with it.

It's so quiet it's unusable

I'm really disappointed by this mic...

It's extremely quiet, I can't get a clean hiss-free signal when recording acoustic guitar. I'm using an Audient ID44 and a FetHead to amplify the signal, still hiss. Other dynamic microphones work fine.

The other big drawback is that the mic grill is plastic. What does that mean? That the mic is uninsulated, and you will get 50Hz hum whenever you place it near a guitar amp.

There are way better mics for the price and unless you have a million dollar preamp, don't buy this.

Great mic

Great mic for the price. I use It mostly on cajon as front mic sometimes as back mic aswell. Used it for congas and a classical guitar few times and it worked as it should. Good reliable mic, even used it for vocals rarely as backup mic when we ended up having unexpected singers on stage.

Most used for a reason

What else to say than that this is the microphone most people use to record their guitar with. The sound is good for the price and this will always remain a standard in any recording environment.

Shure SM57 LC vs Rode NT1-A

I got both the Shure SM57 LC and the Rode NT1-A to compare them to each other. My goal is to record music at home.

Both have their charms. The Shure SM57 LC is very sturdy and has the benefit that it doesn't need phantom power. It's also a lot lighter and smaller. Both do well in the lower sound ranges. Although I would say that the Rode NT1-A does slightly better in that aspect. But in high sound ranges the Rode NT1-A is a clear winner. It has a crisper sound than this microphone. This is by all means a very good and though microphone for a good price. But if you have to pick one I would suggest the Rode NT1-A, which is only slightly more expensive.

Shure SM57 best for snare

legendary dynamic mic for snare

Great product.

Perfect for miking an amp.

Its metal housing feels really robust. The only downside is the plastic part at the top. If that was made out of metal, this mic would be indestructible.
