Superlux HD-681 Evo BK Reviews
Great value
Excelent sound quality for the value. Does not allow much environment sound in, which may be a good or bad thing, depending on the task.
Super accurate sound. Top notch quality vs. price ratio. Doesn't get any better than this if one is looking for inexpensive, high quality, comfortable headphones for studio.
Headphones for everyone and for everywhere !
After buying Superlux HD-662 Evo, I could not resist to buy one more pair, and I opted for the same category but a semi-opened one. I will try to compare those two model as best as I can.
First of all the HD-681 have less clamping force, and they are much more comfotable then the HD-662, and I can where them much longer before they start to get a bit uncomfortable. The build quality is almost the same, and the quality is more then is shold be for the given price. The packaging is the same, with just one difference, the velour pads on 681 are not that good like on the 662. They are a bit harder and stiffer, but still decent.
The things that I like the most about these are the detachable cable, whitch is the best implemanation on the market, period.
The sound signature is very similar to the 662 Evo, like I have expected, but a margin better on 681, and I even like them more, and use them more often. The bass is there, it's punchy but not so tight like one the 662. The mids and highs are warmer, and bit more clear then on the 662.
Overall from my perspective you won't make a mistake buying either par, but I recomend slightly more the 681 over the closed back HD-662 Evo.
The best headphones in this price group, with no doubt.
unreal value
Unreal sound for the price, they literally demolish everything i have tried in this price range, its not even a contest.
Would definitely buy again from this brand.
It's even more crazy that they give two pairs of pads, and two cables too...
just Über cool
very interesting headphones
I have been using this headphones primarily for rehearsing and laying down some demo tracks.
the headphones do not feel very solid, either the plastic on the cups looks a little cheap nor they have a headband adjustment, it just stays put with the tension of the elastic band, which i think may be prone to tearing after some time, the earpads feel a little stiff, and not very easy on the ear shape, The sound nevertheless is very good, i find it quite airy, so I like it, The drivers deliver a good response.
Price wise they are very inexpensive, for the sound they deliver, i assume for gaming they should be a real bargain.
Shocked how good these are!!
I bought these on a bit of whim while thinking that the sound would be very coloured and unbalanced but the response is actually really good!
Have used these a lot now to check my work from professional monitors (I check my work on a number of headphones, earphones and speakers to check how the tracks will translate across systems) and I'm always surprised when I check with these because they're so flat!
Fully recommend to anyone working.
Not particularly comfortable for long wears but they are light so that's a plus. Makes me wonder how durable they'll be but I'm not using them out of the studio so I'm sure they'll be ok.
Best sound for its money
Very nice sound,I can say!
Great value for money
I bought these for general listening use and they have been fantastic. They are comfy over longer periods - they come with a pleather set of ear pads fitted and a velour type set in the box. Also in the box is a 1 meter and a longer (3m maybe) cable. These are quite robust, I've owned them since may and have had no problems at all. Sound quality is great, probably the best I've heard from a pair of headphones for this price point and better than some more expensive ones. If i lost these I would definitely replace them.
Compelling saving
I consider this a surprisingly good product, not only for the price.
I like:
- Sound. I liked them immediately: it's a rich sound that entertained me out of the box;
- Comfort. The elastic headband makes easy to find the correct position. The standard ear pads are very big and don't apply pressure to my ears; in the box there are also a pair of velour ear pads;
- Detachable cable; two of them, of different lengths, are supplied.
I don't like:
- They don?t seem robust as other headphones I have, but time will say.
Other products I know about:
- If you need foldable headphones for an on the go setup, consider the HD-685: they are much easier to carry and sound more neutral;
- If you like the HD-681 Evo engaging sound but you need more isolation from outside noise, consider the HD-662 Evo;
- If you like a "warmer" sound with more isolation from outside noise, or if you need higher impedance, consider the HD-660.
The best headphones under 30¤?!?!
Fantastic sound, everything you'd look for as a musician, whether it's for listening to music or recording or practising or whatever... these do it all and they do it just very very good. I wasn't expecting that quality of sound. Recommending this to everyone, just buy and be surprised!
Quality details
Very pleased with the these, lots of high end features for price. Two length leads very useful. Have a few headphones including a set of Koss Pro 4A's (like having two drain covers on your head!)
I use these for hours with no fatigue, ofcourse usual dampness where in contact with head (less so with the soft cushioned covers also supplied).Nice travel bag too.
Suprising found the frequency response a little clipped at both ends but only noticable when I immediatey put on my Sennheisers. I use these for practising with my guitar at home, fine!
Good kit.
Not very comfortable
I purchased these to replace a failing set of Sony mdr-cd480.
I use them for listening to music during work hours, so they are on my head for the most part of an 8 hour day. As such, comfort is very important to me.
Unfortunately, they are not as comfortable as my old Sony's.
- The ear cups are not very spacious, and rub my relatively large ears. The felt earpads do fit better.
- The head band has no elasticity or stretch, making it dig into my head, which over long hours becomes quite uncomfortable.
Sound wise, compared to the Sony's they are in a different class. Amazing clarity and detail, and a load of bass.
The drawbacks to the sound were:
- Too much bass, i.e. on bassy tunes I would sometimes have to take them off due to discomfort.
- Too much detail, basically makes listening to poor quality music sound terrible, i.e. they emphasize crackling and hissing.
- Relatively low volume.
On other issues:
- They make a nasty clicking noise when you take them off, as if they are about to break
- There's not much external sound let in, but enough to hear your name called.
- Unfortunately mine failed after a few months (bad contact in left ear).
Overall they do sound really great, but nothing more.
For the price you can't complain
I bought these cans to replace my Audio-Technica closed back set. So I'm not comparing apples and apples when I say that the bass is a bit lacking on these. However, they are really light and I could wear them all day long even though they don't have much adjustment (they're a kind of one-size-fits-all affair). I'm going to be using them mostly for keyboard practice and for that they're fine. If you want them for bass practice, for example, I suggest you get a closed-back design. Also, for the price, I'm amazed that they come with a spare set of ear pads, 2 different lengths of cable and a 3.5mm - 6.35mm adaptor.
Had a contact fault with multiple items
5 years ago, I purchased my first Superlux HD-681 Evo. I was truly amazed by the sound for it's price. I was also satisfied with the durability as it has been extensively used and still works today, although the strap has torn off and one pair of the earpads have been weathered. That's why I decided to get a new one and also convinced some of my friends to try it out, although the price gone up that time, and we had to wait for a month because it was out of stock. Sadly as it turned out however, my second experience wouldn't be so positive this time. One of the headphones had a contact fault soon after unboxing and another one developed it in half a year. Both of them has it near the jack outlet so I reckon the part is weak by design. I don't know how frequent this annoying problem is, but I do not recommend buying the Superlux HD-681 Evo headphones because of this.
Super superlux
Like the fact that the wire is detachable and there a two different length wires. Would be perfect if there was a fixator so that width and height wouldn't change while you wear them.
Best headphones for this price range
USE:
The Superlux HD-681 Evo BK Studio Headphones are a semi open headphones for home or studio works and it comes with a gougeous housing and includes a plug and plug 3.5mm stereo mini-jack and one pair of extra velour earpads.
SUMMARY:
This headphones are warm leaning studio monitoring. They are not super detailed, but has subtle nuances. For a 30¤ pair of headphones i must say that the build quality is surprisingly robust, strong and polished finishing. You can expect them to bring you a clear and wide sound response and bass emphasis.
PROS:
1- Inexpensive headphones.
2- One pair of extra velour earpads.
3- Amazing to mix and master.
4- Can be upgradeable with compatible soft mods.
5- Very comfortable.
CONS:
1- Tends to be a little bassy when listening soft music.
CONCLUSION:
For the price it is really hard to knock-it and for a first time upgrade its far more rewarding than any expensive knock off. For sure, you can use this headphones to listen music, movies, mixes or use them live, home or at studio.
But, if you are an audio expert or professional áudio technician, i recommend you to search other headphone price ranges. This ones are the best low cost headphones you can buy!
Excellent sound, but build quality isn't the best.
The package is good with a lot of accessories, even an extra pair of velvet pads.
The quality of both of the pads (leather and velvet) is very good, they're comfortable and they don't wear easily.
The build quality of the Headphones isn't great, it's all plastic and in some parts not very solid, but with standard-careful use it's not a serious problem.
They can be attached to everything, even mp3 portable players and smartphones, and they sound good.
I use them on a PC sound card, a Sound Blaster Z, and the sound is excellent in all ranges, the mids feel a little thick but aside from that the bass are controlled and the highs are clean, and after some hours of use they don't feel heavy at all.
The price is ridiculous for what you get, they sound even better than some 150-200 euro professional headphones i've tried.
Good headphones on a tight budget
It´s my first studio headphones, they are really good looking headphones, also the sound is really good and flat, I´m using it mostly to play guitar in silence and the result is fantastic. I mean I´m happy with them.
I need to mention that my ears get hot after wearing it for a long period of time with the leather pads (as expected on an over-ear headphone) but they come with a spare set of pads made of cloth that are way fresher and more confortable wear for long time use. Also comes with a long a short cable to connect the headphones.
My personal opinion is that it´s an outstanding piece of equipment for the price.
To workplace this is just perfect. Semi open back so you can kinda hear if a colleague shouts at you. :) A bit big in size but the sound quality is very nice for this price.
Just incredible for the price
These headphones are so cheap we can't believe the sound quality, and the quality of the product. Amazing for mixing, or just to listen music with a good quality and good price.
