Superlux HD-668 B Reviews
Best headphones under 50 euros
I'm a PC gamer and I've used several headphones in the past. These are the best that I have ever used in this price range. Exceptional sound! The music that you already own will get so much better when you listen it through these headphones. The delivery was fast. I am extremely happy and satisfied with my purchase.
Did I just pay 30
When I saw online that this 30€ headphones would sound balanced, true to the sound and could compete with "all stars" headphones I was like: "some people are consuming too much caffeine. After a few years I decided to give it a try and the moment I've put them on my ears I was like: "Is this really happening or am I hallucinating?
Well this headphones were tested through a Focusrite Solo and from my Laptop's audio card. The sound was great on both of them, being the Focusrite sound slightly better. The bass was a little off in the beginning but after 30 hours of burn-in, the bass was punchy and accurate, the highs also became much more realistic and now they are not so annoying and keep getting better everyday. While I'm producing I can get the subtle differences in the mixing, some things that I can't get with more expensive headphones. This is not a headphone for big heads, my brother and father complain about the tightness, for me it is a perfect fit.
So if you think that cheap stuff is not good enough, think again. While this is not perfect, nor a war tank, it can last a long time if taken care of.
I would say that the sound is the best I've heard and I will change the ear-pads for some AKG ones to be comfortable.
High quality, low price
Bought these after reading an online review, seriously good headphones - you could easily pay two or three times as much for the same quality. Nicely balanced - work well for mixing and just general listening. Highly recommended.
OK for the price
I like to exercise bass playing using headphones when playing at home late in the evening. So far I did that with high end in-ears, which just sounds amazing. But - fumbling these headphones into my ears became cumbersome over time - I hoped having some over the ears phones I could just cramp on my head and start playing might be easier to use. Reading several reviews about which headphone to use for bass playing I found a lot recommendations for this one, and given the price is stunning low I ordered them.
When they arrived I did a first quick test by listening to some bass biased music - Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten etc. I found the sound quite OK, but not as impressive as reported in some reviews. Very good given the low price, but far from excellent.
Then I plugged them into my bass amp and tried them with my bass. Too bad - my bass sounds as dull over these phones as it always does when I use anything else than my in-ears.
So - if you want to listen to some pop music these phones offer decent quality for a very low price. For Jazz or anything where you want a neutral tone and transparent heights they or not the best choice - but hey, they cost almost nothing!
Bass players can use them for exercising. If you are up for a more vintage tone he will probably like these phones, especially if you use flat wounds. If you prefer clean or even brilliant sounds you need to invest more money.
OK budget
OK budget headphones, neutral midrange, but to bright for me, the bass is a lot better on Superlux HD-685. Sensitivity is also low, (good for some ear's maby :-))
Cheap but good.
If you are broke and looking for some good quality headphones, this item is for you. I've owned them for over 2 years and they are in perfect shape.
Good sounds, quite plastic look and feel
OK, I'm not a studio wizard. Also I don't have expensive studio headphones to compare with. Crappy ones I do have.
The sound with these is super good and balanced compared to my previous entry-level Sony "studio monitor" headphones. How unbelievable it sounds, but even my home recordings have started sounding better. I mean they usually now sound good and balanced on the first test listening with home stereos, headphones and kitchen radio, which wasn't the case with my old Sonys. With the old headphones, on the first try always some frequency range was missing or too loud.
I have a really big head and these still fit perfectly, which is not the case with all headphones.
Only downside is that they look really plastic and are a bit sweaty and hot. Not too bad, though I can take that easily with this price tag.
Excellent speakers but uncomfortable headband
Ok, so first of all, they sound pretty good, and I dont get the sweaty ears with these like I do with the closed speaker models... If only the headband was more confortable, I could wear these all the day...
But I can't. The headband design is utter crap, I guess I just have too big head, because those "self-adjusting" pads will completely move out of the way and those plastic bands will leave deep grooves into the scalp. I'd have to switch their position all the time to get rid of that.
If the headband was better, I'd give them 5 stars for comfort.
First I thought that the semi-open design would eat away the deep bass, but it won't. I've just had some bad experiences with some other cheap open headphones. What the semi-open design actually does, is that after few hours of use, my ears are not sweaty at all!. And they won't block outside sounds, and I can hear stuff like the doorbell, phone ringing and even my tv, when I have the headphones on.
What I really like, is that the cable is detachable, there is the headphone plug right in the headphones... So I can use my own cable with volume control. Also it makes the cable easy to replace, if I accidentally destroy it by running over it with my chair.
Often used for sound design
Great headphones. extremely comfortable and can be worn all day.
I usually struggle using headphones down to them not being very comfortable to wear. I do sports sound design as Jetta Lazza and often need to use headphones when working in small spaces. I always pick these over my more expensive headphones as they sound true and are comfy to wear.
The short cable is the perfect length when working at a computer. So there is no excess cable getting caught under chair wheels. And if you need to move around there is an extended cable included.
I have been using these for 1 year now and they are still going strong.
amazing sound quality
Build quality could be better but it's good for its price. After falling down a few times, my headphone lost some plastic parts from the bow already but it is still working. Cable and earpads can easily be replaced.
What bothers me most about this headphone is the comfort. The earpads are too small to surround the ears so there is alawys pressure on them which can get annoying after short times already.
As for the sound i was really impressed. It sounds pretty clear and even over all frequencies except vor really low bass maybe. But then again i've never been satisfied with the bass of any headphone.
I never use the included bag because i only use it at home but even if i were to carry it with me i wouldn't use the bag. It's just enough to protect from dirt and scratches but offers no protection against mechanical influences.
Great sounding headphones
These are really decent headphones. They are perfect for a monitor while recording, because they effectively insulate sound from getting in or out (as effectively as you can hope, for the price).
They are pretty comfortable too- I am happy to wear them for hours on end, although you may have to adjust occasionally as they do get slightly annoying, especially just behind the ear. For this reason they became my go to headphones for casual listening! They are much better than the in-ear headphones I used to use.
They are very flexible, requireing little adjustment to fit on anyone's head.
The cables and converter plug it comes with (mini jack female to regular jack male) are extremely convenient, and work brilliantly, never coming loose.
Conclusion- whether you're mixing your album or listening to radiohead whike you do your maths homework, you can't go far wrong with these headphones- especially considering the price!
Very good value for the price
Build quality and sound-wise I have absolutely no regrets picking these headphones up. If I had to be hard on something, the default pads are a bit hard on my eyeglasses, but that is hardly a big thing considering it doesn't generally lead to tiredness or pain - even during very long (eight hours plus) working sessions.
On the rare occasion there is pain after a very long session, it most often is actually due improper placement because of one reason or another.
All in all, would buy again; the price performance is quite awesome and the sound quality is pretty much as much as you could get for this price range - what's left is the style of the sound and that is "what you happen to like" territory.
I bought these headphones for mainly the purpose of gaming, but I ended listening music with them as well.
For phones which cost 30? - the sound is astonishing.
The frequency and bass ranges don't focus on either one (which seem to be a case sometimes) - so the sound is quite natural and pleasing.
And with this price I'm not worried of using these outside my apartment, thing that limits the usage of phones sometimes.
The biggest ''con'' of these, especially in my case. was the comfort:
After longer period of time the wearing the cups start to hurt and the pads along the rails aren't helping much.
One of my friend stated that he has been ''quite settled'' to the discomfort of these headphones, but I myself can't wear these for a longer time.
But of course one can always change the earpads or do other patents e.g. with toilet paper to improve the comfort of these headphones.
Amazing sound quality for an amaing price
If you search a professional studio headphone and you don't want to pay very much, this one is the one of your choice.
The Superlux HD-668 B has got an amazing good sound quality. The basses are clear, the highs are good to hear and the mids sound like mids should sound. The sound is also very spatial.
The packet includes two different length cables. This includes the fact, that the cable is replaceable and i never had problems with accidentally releasing cables.
The only thing i have to compare about are the two self-adjusting headband pads. For me they are a bit too strong and if you have long hair, they like to get caught into your hairs.
But all in all i would recommend this product.Alone on the great sound quality.
Great sound for great price
I bought these in 2011, after trying out the ones that my friend bought.
The sound quality is good. It's neutral, with only a slight overemphasis on the high freq. range. It gets better with a decent headphone amp, these headphones are not on their best with basic laptop sound cards (still better than any phones from this price range I have tried out). Bass response is very accurate. Overall, the sound is very clear, instruments can be distinguished from a mix. I use these with a pair of studio monitor speakers to mix recordings at home and I'm very happy.
The comfort is good enough, nothing to complain, but these don't really feel premium. Never tried out longer than three hours, during that period I felt no squeeze.
The quality is not that great. Cheap plastic is all over these headphones, fake leather, ugly seams etc. They came with two cables, both broke up after a year of usage. But with replaceable cables it's not a big deal. If handled with care, these headphones will serve you for a long time.
PS. I also use these while gaming :-)
Good Headphones for low price
I own the Superlux HD-668 B headphones for about one month, and i am really pleased of the whole package that you can buy for that low price.
Sound:
the sound is clear and quite naturally, but bit sharp in high "klick"- and "sshh"-tones. I use the headphones for my bass-amp with backing tracks through the AUX-In, and it works really good. The Superlux got enough deep tones and i can hear every mistake in playing my bass.
Comfort:
The Headphones fit quite good on my ears without pressing too much. Also the two foam blocks at the top don't decrease the comfort while playing or listening, they make some kind of "light" feeling on my head (without sweating or anything else).
Quality:
Everything is crafted well, the headphones seem to be solid and long-living. Even the 1m and 3m-long AUX-cables are high quality.
So all in all, the Superlux HD-668 headphones are definitely enough for my field of application. Only the harsh "shh"-sounds at listening to some bad-quality soundfiles can be disturbing, but you get some really good headphones for a low price.
Amazing Headphones
These headphones come with a pouch and two cables, 1m and 3m. I do not have any other headphones to compare with, but in my opinion these are really good. They are very robust, I often dropped them on the floor, but nothing happened. The sound is very balanced but not too neutral. Great for mixing, monitoring or symply just listening music.
The only weak point is the comfort. But in combination with the AKG K240 velour pads ( they fit perfectly) the Superlux HD-668 B are very comfortable to wear.
Very robust, well sounding headphones with a very good value for money.
Can't beat the price for these high quality headphones
For the price range, I haven't seen any other heaphones that sound and feel this good. Very happy with them overall!
Superb headphones for next to nothing!
I bought these headphones couple of years ago after hearing many good reviews about them and when I was told they are extremely good for the price you pay. But I was amazed at how good these really are. The sound quality is excellent, the pads don't weigh on your head so you can use them for hours to the end, bass is not too heavy but you can really feel it. The cord is removable and usually comes off when I try to leave my computer with these on my head so that's another plus for me. If you're looking for extremely good headphones for a really cheap price, I don't think there are any that compare to Superlux HD-668 B. I love the synergy the Superlux show on a crossfeed. It "warms" up the sound just to the right amount, giving a slight boost in the bass and further refining the headphones convincing soundstage. I prefer that combo to most much more expensive headphones I know. I think the HD668B are killers for their price and Superlux is a great company which makes affordable products with great sound quality. Now enthusiasts and professionals who couldn't afford to buy 5 pairs of AKG's for their studio can do that with Superlux without compromising the sound. If I wanted better audio quality I should prepare to spend 10x the money these cost!
Extremely cheap and useable for the money, but the quality of the sound is not very high. However, this is a perfect choice for a small studio, where it is necessary to have a bunch of headphones at hand.
