tc electronic Sub'N'Up Octaver Reviews
Great pedal
Great pedal. Very easy to use and has great tones. The Toneprints are brilliant and so easy to use.
Alternative to EHX POG
I use this on a split signal path from my bass to a guitar combo using 1 octave up to provide a rhythm like guitar sound when the guitarist solos. Takes a bit of fiddling to get the most convincing sound and can sound artificial and processed but used in conjunction with a distortion, reverb and EQ it will produce satisfactory results. I went for this because IMHO the EHX was overpriced for what I wanted to achieve.
Genaue was ich wollte und mehr
I bought this pedal after aquiring the "nether octaver" which i found absolutely not satisfying (frequent tracking issues).
I have to say I am very statisfied, The polyphonic mode tracks really well and allows you to play chords which is quite amazing. The toneprint mode lets your guitar sound like an orgamon.
This wont transform your 6 strings guitar into a 12 strings, but it does pretty good job, the only thing I could say is that the output sometimes lacks of "definition" (i don't have a better word to describe it), it seems that it sometimes is difficult to distinguish the sounds of the different strings, depending on how your play with the knobs. But I am being picky here.
great for this price
doesn't track quite as well as it appeared on lots of videos i watched , but pretty good anyway,
the tone print options are great , really cool to have the pedal be used for something other than just an octave - the organ sounds on some of the toneprints are very nice - highly recomended
Very versatile pedal
Opens up so much more possibilities for your guitar sound. Awesome!
Marvelous technology
Honestly, I bought the pedal because it's cheaper than the EHX POG AND because I was curious about the Tone Print technology.
Can 't compare with the POG, but I'm glad I did the purchase.
Beaming didn't work with a pedal in front of it (old BOSS ME20). And I suppose it needs some practice to find the beaming soft spot with regard to the pick-up. Maybe it is also a question of the quality of the pick-up (mine is a single coil on a Squier Tele).
Personally, I find that the Tone Print presets lack subtility but I found one to my likings that I will be able to continue with.
Overall, the pedal is what you can expect from TC Electronic: good price, sturdy housing and innovative.
versatile octaver
fun but the novelty wears off after while.
Great tracking, worth the price as it provides same if not better quality and options as a POG. I really like to the Classic sound of a monophonic octaver as it is fatter sounding. The polyphonic works perfectly as well, but has a slight metallic sound for the octave up - btw which I think all polyphonic octavers have.
The best Octave pedal!!
TC Electronic is one of the best pedal companies to date and their sub n up pedal is no exception!! Buy this pedal!
Great for such a price! Very satisfied!
I've bought this pedal to use it with a guitar and I like it a lot, however, my bass player likes it as well ))
It's a nice octave pedal and does what it's supposed to do. The classic mode is very cool and is pretty different from the polyphonic mode, sounds a little bit more angry to me, and with a much more pronounced up-octave.
cons:
No cons so far, love it!
Guitar Octaver
Almost 100% tracking, this pedal is simple to use and provides great customization. The TonePrint function is super useful and adds more effects other than octaves.
Versatile and unique octaver
Sounds a little different to the familiar tone of the EHX Pog but has it's own character and tracks flawlessly. The sub 2 knob doesn't get used by me as it's just too much low end but you can assign that knob to modulation and other fx within the toneprint editor.
Brilliant Tracking - Very Cool pedal
This has been my favourite Octave, I have tried several including EBS, BOSS, and MXR. It tracks really well, much better than most analogue pedals on bass. I most use the non poly mode. Using the poly mode I have got a kinds cool pearl jam Jeremy sound, also handy for the bruno mars type sound, when you use an envelope filter.
Like all TC pedal with the toneprint thing you can have huge flexibility if you want. In short it is really good value.
best octaver with old school and modern posibillities
Great octaver with vintage and moderen posibilitie settings and ofcourse the "toneprint" option to load up with your phone a setting from great pre programmed settings. Tracking is exceptional good and fast! After that you can change and colour your personal flavour also. solid build and great quality buidling.
this is my third TC pedal!!
One of the best octavers in the market
I was in the market to find the perfect octaver - having tested all of the possibilities - all EHX Pogs, Moer, Boss, I found this to suit my needs the best.
The tracking is superb and the octaves generated sound very natural.
My only complain is that there is Dry (or FX) out, which would let me separate the signals (for example guitar going to one preamp and octave lower going to bass preamp) and that there are no presets. However, for the price you get plenty, anyway.
Highly recommended!
Amagawd
I have now seen the light....this is just fantastic! The way it handles chords is off this world!
PA destroyer
I use this pedal with bass. I have a classic octave effect in my Digitech Bass Synth Wah and I'm totally satisfied with it but I needed something that can put more layers in my tone, especially that octave up effect and you know what? I totally scored with this pedal, it is great just because it is nothing like stuff we know (oc-2, pog...), it is a story for itself. SUB2 option is pretty useless on a bass, but man, with SUB and UP knobs and a poly/classic switch you can get whatever your heart wants. SUB is great and I think every sound guy will hate you the moment you crank it all the way. As this is my TC pedal I must say I am pretty amazed with their TonePrint options the give us for free! Some instant sound from famous guys and a great editor for making your own craziness. Built quality is top notch. Totally recommend!
powerhouse of an octaver
Using it with a bass, I mainly had it for three different sounds: the good ole monophonic one octave below, as a normal bass octaver, the polyphonic mode in different settings, for emulating the electric guitar's sound (mostly with using other distortion pedals) and the toneprint function to give some unusal and surprising moments to jam sessions and the like. For these, the pedal is absolutely ingenious, covers all the areas an octaver should and then some. I'm sure it can be used for a tons of other purposes, given that I didn't even tried other toneprints or the software tweaking. All in all, a fantastic equipment, usable at concerts as much as in the studio.
The best octaver pedal ever
This pedal allows you to use 3 octaves at the same time + your origin sound. You can blend this sounds as you wish with the knobs.
Octaver has 3 modes: polyphonic, classic and toneprint. Build quality is very good.
The sound of this pedal is real magic! I think this is the most accurate and fastest octave pedal I ever used. And looks cool in my pedalboard. Go for it with no doubt and you will never regret, I promise. =)
Great Multi-Bells & Whistles Device
Originally I got this pedal just to use it as a substitute for a bass in solo-looping situations. Even though the tracking is great, doesn't really sound like a bass, however with some levels adjustment I can use it for the purpose I wanted. It has high, sub and 2-octave sub down, also you can get a good 12 string emulator. Which is my extra benefit. I wasn't aware of that at the moment of my purchase.
And of course you have the toneprint feature, that I don't use a lot but hey....
The list on the toneprint catalog is long and it also simulates "organ like" sounds, I used to be a keyboard player so I now want to focus on more guitar and bass stuff...but to have a few different sounds, this thing makes the job pretty cool.
for a moment I thought I should have gotten just a simpler octaver pedal for less money, but now I'm pretty happy with all what this thing packs in. Also just to add, mine came with a cut in the circuitry, - I think that's the problem - because it sucks batteries everytime. I mean, it consumes the charge of the battery in maybe two short sessions. I would have loved to return it, but the process for that, from Kazakhstan where I'm based now, is too complicated. Pity because sometimes it comes very handy to use it with batteries. I will have to keep it powered by the cable.
Get one and have fun mates!
