Versatile Octave Pedal with some extras

I've been playing the SubnUp for a few years now and am really happy with it. The classic setting is lovely for single line heavily distorted riffs, where tracking is not a huge concern.

The poly setting is pretty incredible in that it tracks chords surprisingly well. I use this all the time.

I've not used the Toneprint setting too much as I like to have pedals available to cover accompanying effects, so I can change their settings with ease. But when I've had a play about with a few toneprint presets I was really surprised by the quality.

Definitely worth your money if you're looking for a octaves that can track.

Fantastic for thick distorted bass sounds

I never really liked the sound of octave pedals in general, but I saw some decent reviews of this one, and decided to try it out. When I put this in front of a distortion pedal with the up octave and a bit of sub 1, it sounds absolutely insane. It made my green russian big muff sound so much better.

The pitch tracking is very good, even on the low E string of a bass guitar. It's built very strongly, and the addition of toneprint is nice (although as with my other tc electronic pedals, I probably wont end up using it much). I found that the "poly" mode sounded a bit better, but had some ever so slight latency, whereas the "classic" mode responds almost instantly, but sounds a tiny bit robotic. Would be nice if it had an overall volume knob, as there are noticeable differences in volume depending on how you set the dials.

Overall, a great pedal if you want those muse/royal blood distorted bass tones.

One of the best octave pedals on the market

After having used a BOSS OC3 for many years, I was looking for something that just did the job better. I use a separate pickup for my Low E and A strings which has its own output that I run through the octave to give the impression of having a bass player. The OC3 while it worked, did have its drawbacks and warbled a lot with use. But the Sub n Up has changed the game completely. A really rich and warm low end bass sound which completely surpasses anything the Boss OC3 could ever do. With the addition of the 2 octaves below and one octave above, this makes for a very versatile pedal with a vast array of sound options available to the user.

The best.

This is the best octave pedal I’ve used!

Good but be careful...

The TonePrint feature seems to be the best thing in the pedal but it doesn't work properly on my Sub'N'Up Octave. I've found out on internet that quite a few people had the same problem as me: when on TonePrint mode the tone sound doesn't change when you upload any template to it. Although i got a way out of this: when you open the template on the app he gives you a preview of the sound. Just quit the app in that moment and the template will remain in your pedal. Bingo! Hope it helps if you got the same problem. It's a great pedal...just a pity that this important feature doesn't work properly in some cases.

a decent pedal overall.. almost

I'm a bassist and wanted a pedal with an octave up and down feature - my favourite setting would be 'classic', sounds killer before a Big Muff distortion, makes you sound Huge, but the octave down tracking seems to not work around the middle of the fretboard on the A string..

poly octave up has too much sub bass and octave down is just rumble.

I bought this pedal for mainly the Toneprint to be able to use custom sounds. the editing was cool, made my own patch but I was not able to store it, currently talking with tc electronic customer service to try and fix it, for now this is 3 stars but could improve if I find a solution

Adorable little beast

Pros: Almost flawless polyphonic tracking, when you need it (without the weird fizz on top, like you get from Brainwaves, for example (different pedals, I know, but still)), and glitchy 'classic' one, when you don't.

- It's true bypass. Except when it's buffered bypass (there is a switch inside).

- TonePrint functionality. In this mode all physical knobs and the curves of their response(!) can be remapped to around 50 different parameters. There are 8 different octaver settings, input EQ, EQs for each of the 2 subs and an EQ for up, modulation tab, etc. Although I feel that not that many people would actually get past beaming ready-made presets into the thing, which in itself is a coolest process ever. It uses electromagnetic vibration in a coil of a smartphone speaker (and not the sound made by speaker cone) to communicate digitally with the pedal. Also it does organ sounds. How cool is that?

- The price.

Cons: I guess 'classic' mode could be a little glitchier? And there is no 'tracking accuracy' settings in TonePrints either

- Needs more TonePrint slots

- Maybe i'll find more cons along the way, I only had it for a day.

Excelent tracking, excelent polytonal mode

A great octaver to create bass lines and for solos too. I use it with a wah and it sounds something like a whammy, really fun.

Also comes with toneprint function to personalize your sound even further.

A really versatile octaver.

Great

Great addition to my quite simple setting for both bass and guitar. Pocket size fits easily in the pedalboard, the pedal is solid and looks great with Polytune tuner next to it.

Sound and effects are basically the same as in POG or POG2, which are way more expensive.

When played along with various fuzz/reverb effects gives quite a unique range of fuzzy piano/organ-like options that make guitars and basses sound like a completely new instrument. Probably the best octaver in this price range.

Fine (for the price)

If you're looking for a cheap / medium priced octaver this pedal might be for you. The 1 octave down sounds good. The octave up is way too soft in volume, so if you have the octave up + dry signal both at 100% the octave up really lets you down.

Great option

It looks, feels and controls great. I use this for my Royal Blood cover rig. The polyphonic octave up makes my bass sound enough like a guitar to make it work.

Great tone but won't work on a battery

Really good sounding octave pedal, very fun to play. Especially the "vintage" octaver setting, sounds badass. Balanced sound and fast response.

The tone print editing is ok. It's fun for a while but not a lot of extra effects. You can add stuff like delay / chorus / reverb. So you can get either an octaver or a vibey surfer tone. For the money that's good though.

The only complaints are:

1. The battery power is a gimmick. It will discharge in 30 minutes

2. It doesn't look cool and has cheap plastic knobs

Nice octaver

That's a nice octaver. Gives You much possibilities with choosing the octaves and the built in effects are also nice.

One thing that i consider not 100% satysfying is that when you add a classic octave down it doesn't track that well (of course i mean the upper registers).

For the price and for the possibilities - worth it!

Modern stuff

This is defenitely one of the most recognisable octavers nowadays. I really like the idea of tone print, where you can make your own sound on laptop. Very modern and flexible gear.

Good deal

An affordable octaver! I use it with a loop pedal to add bass lines to my practice jams.

Great sound

I put it on everything.

Fun little pedal

Tonnes of options with, or without the TonePrint app. Just a fun, little pedal to play around with.
