the t.bone BD 300 Reviews
didn't test it properly yet, but the mic feel solid and sound ok
Great low-end
This kick mic eliminates the need for a subkick speaker. There is tons of 60-100Hz information. Compared this to a beta52a and the beta sounded clearer, but this one had a bigger low end. So it's all a matter of taste. Solid product and unbeatable at this price!
Suprisingly gread
Bought this mic to mic up a bass drum on the cheap without expecting a lot due to the price point. However, after testing it out, the results far exceeded my expectations.
So far I have only tested it as a bass drum mic. I cannot really talk about cons as so far, considering the price point cannot see any but here are the pros:
- Very solidly built: there are no creaks/gaps, the housing feels great.
- Very good sound: gives a lot of low end and fits very well in the mix with minor adjustment
- Comes with a carrying pouch: surprising at this price point.
Overall, loved this product and would highly recommend for anyone who wants to try to record drums on the cheap. Will try more t.bone mics in the future.
Fantastic value, great sound
I love the T Bone mic's . We use them live in our band. I use the BD 300 on the bass drum. It sounds great. The Gain before feedback of all the T Bone mics is great . However, it's hard to get a feel for that before purchase. That is the issue with the sound bites. It doesn't really tell you how the mic will perform live.
Can't beat the price
We have previously used this mike even for gigs and it works amazing. Now we are just using it in rehearsals. You cannot beat the pricepoint comparing to quality on this. Very much recommended for light home/rehearsal use. If you need to go professional, then you need to spend 5 times more. But if not, this definitely does the trick.
Great mic
This is a great mic I use it for my cajon and it does the job.
Trumps anything else available for the money.
Good sounding and reliable bass drum mic for under 40 quid? Winner!
Excellent
Have tested this mic using Audiomatica Clio and it is virtually the same as a beta 52!
Pretty Decent
Bought this mic because of the cheap price (obviously).
Used a a few times and it does what it has to do: Amplify the Kick Drum. It does generate some feedback at higher volumes but I would still recommend this if you're not looking for super quality but something to amplify the kick trough a small PA for a small venue.
FIRST BASS DRUM MIC
My first bass drum mic, it looks good, but doesn't sound that good when i increase the gain over 12o'clock, A part from everything is $$$ positive about this mic....
Cheep mic
Its a cheep mic. Sound is not very good. Its a hard to handle only with parametric EQ and compressor.
Nice kick drum mic
Very nice kick drum mic. It looks nice and captures the sound appropriately, though it might not be able to capture the whole bottom end, for which you might want to use an additional sub-kick. Apart from this, the mic fits easily in a regular hole of the resonant head of the kick drum. The grip swivel doesn't go lose once adjusted properly, but you might need to put some extra effort in this task. All in all, a recommendable mic for the price, with good sound and great looks.
Superb mic....
Got to admit, I was a little dubious about this mic, how good could it possibly be for £35? But for a gigging drummer on a budget I figured it was worth a try.
First thing that took me by surprise was the weight of this thing. You need a sturdy stand! I like my mic stand off to the side of the kick drum, I want people to see as much of the custom painted head as possible. I bought a stand with a weighted base, rather than legs, (don't won't the guys out front kicking my mic out of the way lol) and I've had to add a little weight to keep it stable. It also feels very solid, like you could drop it and do more damage to the floor than to the mic itself.
Now to the important bit, how does it sound? The simple answer is, great! It picks up plenty of low end, there is a real thud to the sound. A little EQ and it also gives plenty of beater attack, which I need to cut through our bass players sound! I will say, you do have to watch the gain, a touch too far and you will get feedback. Speaker placement is paramount. I also found that tuning in a tighter sound with less boom on my kick helped a lot, it's definitely the resonant frequencies that are causing the feedback. A gate here would work wonders!
All in all, a fantastic mic at an unbeatable price. There could a lot more tBones in my kit bag if they all turn out this good.
Amazing mic for the price
Can't fault this mic at all. I bought it for live use so the kick can go through the PA for functions gigs. Didn't only deliver on that but it's actually a great sounding mic!
T Bone BD300
Was looking for a cheap kick drum mic for live use and so bought this with the millennium stand bundle. Seems well made and with the stand it works really well as I can set it to sit on the edge of the bass drum with the stand leg into the drum so it doesn?t stick out. (We are often pretty cramped on stage).
We are not really audiophiles in the band and so I can?t really give you a view on the sound. Other reviews have commented on this, but for £35 I thought we?d try it. What I can say is, we put it on the bass drum, plug it in to the desk, and we can hear it in the band mix. Maybe it?s not a mic you would use for recording, but for live gigs at small / medium venues its fine.
Great for a wooly vintage sound
Might not suit if you are looking for a contemporary kick sound that cuts through the mix, but is great at laid back kick sounds. Nice to have alongside the other more obvious kick microphone choices.
Nice sound
Okay an AKG D112 it isn't, but it sounds fine for the price
Great economy bass mic
The first thing that struck me about this mic was the weight. It was heavier than I expected for a cheap mic. It feels very solid and sturdy. XLR connector is good and tight, feels as good as any other on a more expensive mic. The only flaw which is small but worth mentioning is that the tightening mechanism for adjusting the angle of direction is where the budget quality comes in. I dont see it lasting long , BUT would be very easy to fix/ replace. Like I said, it is a great mic and for under €50 its amazing.
Good for live
A great budget choice microphone, although you should know your frequencies or have a sound person as this mic tends to have some low end feedback and has quite a 'sub' bass sound as opposed to a 'tight' sound. Ideal for live situations, but not for recording really. Pretty robust though, I have been using it heavily for almost 2 years and it's been reliable. In the future I would look to upgrade to an Audix D6 or similar for a tight per and punchier sound though.
You would not think that this is a £35 microhphone
I bought this microphone for studio recording purposes, such as miking my bass drum, or miking a bass amplifier. I used to use at least two microphones on the bass drum (one for sub the other for punch) - now I just use this!
When placed just inside of the port hole of the bass drum, pointed between the beater and the rim of the bass drum, you will get an amazing punchy yet full sound from this microphone.
The microphone itself is solid, I could chuck it down the stairs and it would't do a thing to it! I will say though that I do not like having the XLR cable coming out the back of it as it generally makes the mic more unwieldy to use especially if you want it inside the bass drum.
Overall though, it would be silly to not get one of these if you are looking for a new bass drum microphone.
