the t.bone SSM 5 Reviews
Does what it meant to do
I'm recording myself in my bedroom, and the house where my flat is located isn't real new and any soundproof at any point. That's why I wanted to exclude any noises coming through cable hitting the membrane. I have a Shure SM58, so I bought this Shock Mount after a small research which should do, and after receiving and mounting it, it fitted perfectly. The plastic fills good, not premium, but not cheap either. So far, so good, all the records are flawless, noiseless in regards of non-source derived interferences. Would suggest mindlessly.
Nice shockmount
Nice shockmount. Can be tightened easily by hand and stays put when tightened. It has a mix of metal and plastic parts, but that's fine at this price.
Very pleased
I use it for a SDC condenser mic (sE7) for Cajon tapa. It is not completely necessary for may application (tapa mic has already a Low Cut applied quite high so it eliminates any rumble picked by the mic), but it further eliminates vibrations which is quite nice.
Cons: a foam padding would have been great for the grip. I tried it on a Rode M2 mic and it got scratched because the grip has an exposed screw head that scratches any mic since you have to slide the mic in the grip. I solved it by tightening the screw and putting a small quantity of Sanitary Silicone over the exposed head to avoid scratching the mics. I don't know how long will it work until I will have to put another quantity of silicone.
The device is great. The above mentioned issue is a glaring omission but for the price it's great.
SHOCK? Not with these...
I bought some guest Behringer XM1800S mics and they are very cheap but useable for my needs... only issue is they are very sensitive to knocks so I bought three of these (which cost more than the mics) and they do a great job... the difference is noticeable although nothing could completely eliminate the sound transfer with these mics.
universal workhorse
this shockmount is very reliable, it will accept a lot of different microphones and it will do its job very well. You can find it under various brands, but this is the cheapest one, with the same quality.
It does the job very well
It has a very good fit on my ECM999 measurements mic and it also fits very well my AKG D5 too. For its price is very good indeed, definitely recommended.
The outer shock-mount is metallic (aluminum perhaps), so it is solid and should last.
I bought this one for Sennheiser E614, which is 20mm width. It holds OK. The main thing I was impressed with, this mount is sturdy and well built with metal. It's larger than it seems and heavier.
I've also used this for Shure SM58 and SM57 - it is even more suitable for these heavier mics than for E614.
The 3/8 adapter was included, which was not indicated in description.
Its metal!
made of metal for this price...
Clamp is tight and holds sm57 securely...
T.Bone SSM 5
use quite a few of these for all mics cheap and do the job stops any noises coming from the stands
Blatant copy of the AT clamp, but for many , many euros less. Like them a lot.
very sturdy... well designed
does exactly what it is made for... and even better built than I expected at such a great price point
Excellent value
I use this frequently in my studio for SM57, SM58 and small diaphragm type condenser mics. Works really well, and is superb value - the elastic alone for some mic shockmounts costs more than this entire unit!
Great product
I purhcased the t.bone SSM 5 microphone shock mount in order to use it with my previously bought the t.bone EM 9900 microphone. The microphone arrived with it's stock mic holder which you will find is unusable with boom poles as I am using it with the Rode Mini Boompole. So I had to purchase a shock mount holder to eliminate all the unneeded noises and bumps from the pole. After a quick research on the website I found this one and decided to try it out. It turned out to be a steal! Let's face it - the price is great on this piece.
What I love about it is it's ability to accomodate microphones anywhere from 19-20mm up to 30mm which is quite the range if you ask me. I also liked the build quality as all parts of it feel good. The ring is built of metal, the mount feels solid and of course not on last place the bands feel tight.
So far haven't had any issues with it and I can freely recommend it to you if your mic fits :)
Wouldn't recommend it I'm afraid.
There was a bit of wobble when using my shotgun mic which is audible. I wouldn't use this unless really stuck.
Good shock mount.
I'm still using my recording studio with AKG c391b. The material is not very good. But useful and good working. it may be preferable and holding good. quite suitable for thin small diagrams microphone. I advise. Good price good condition.
T.Bone SSM 5 Shockmount.
I wanted a shock mount for my SE1a pencil condenser microphones and these looked like they would fit the bill. They are excellent value for money, the metalwork being solidly made although the plastic clip feels cheap and is hard plastic which might mark the microphone body. I am using some thin foam to wrap the microphone although at this price though there is little to grumble about. Recommended!
Good shockmount, really handy
I bought this to use for my small diaphragm mics (I have Sontronics and SE Electronics). It works really well to isolate vibrations and other noises in studio and reduces feedback if using a small diaphragm condenser onstrage.
It's really well built and feels solid. I can't see it breaking for a long time and looks areally smart and professional onstage as well as being funcional.
Works as advertised and price is right.
Great price !
Effective and inexpensive
I bought two of these shockmounts for use with Oktava M012s. Compared to the Oktava clips - these offer dramatic improvement in sound through proper isolation. I
think these are excellent value for money.
Cost effective Shockmount
The T.Bone SSM 5 has been used for many light condenser microphones with thin and also thick neck, tested on different weight, angle and measure. This shock mount has been dropped many times on the floor by accident and at this point, I didn't notice any significant failure or damages so far. The shock mount is still fully functional and that's the best example how this product has been made. Despite the fact that only rubber strip elements would be easily damaged or broke after stretch, anyway replacement of these elements will cost you less than 1 euro. For many musicians, it is a great opportunity to buy an affordable useful tool, especially for a private home recording studio. In my opinion is nothing to compare with branded companies manufactured very expensive shock mounts systems for really heavy microphones, related to this one it would be good value for money.
