Thomann FetAmp Reviews
Does what it's supposed to do!
Working great and does what it's supposed to do - working well with T bone Ribbon mic
Good product!
Is doing its job.
poorly made
stopped working after a couple of months
Nifty little thing that is handy to have in your toolkit. The design is a bit less fancy compared to the TritonAudio version, but it's very sturdy nonetheless. Simply does what it's supposed to do without any frills.
Buzz Noise
Got this product along with the Shure7B.
It will give you more gain into your microphone for sure but the unit I received introduced a terribly loud buzz noise into my signal. I spent months overlooking this thinking the buzz noise came from either my power rig or other pieces of gear in the chain only to find out its the FETAmp.
Not worth the money or trouble.
Excellent silent pre-amp
Whenever I buy a Ribbon mic, I always get one of these with it because it makes a world of difference in the sound level and therefor the noise floor. You can also use them with dynamic mics to really boost the level. This one is very transparent and won't color the sound.
Not expensive but no quality
It would do the job if you are in a very interference less environment but if you have any electric device near it, don't think about it.
The overall quality is quite poor, I have 2 loose screws already.
You should put in the extra 10/15€ and get a Triton FetHead.
So simple and yet so effective
I bought this little guy to pair alongside a Rode Podmic. I have tested the mic both with and without the FetAmp. This tiny piece works wonders and really amplifies the sound of the Podmic allowing me to use the Mic with my Mixer with little to no gain at all. Does exactly what it says it does.
loose fit for the SM 7B
No real issues, only that it fits the SM 7B (the only gear I tried it with) a bit loose. It clicks, but then keeps wobbly.
Good but pricey.
Using this with a shure sm7b and it does increase the gain without adding the noise you would get from a preamp.
It is cheaper than other items that have the same function but I still feel like it's a little expensive.
Cheap preamp for ribbon mic with good sound
It's a very good sound preamp for dynamic and ribbon microphones but quality of female XLR connector is a bit flimsy. Although this XLR connector is locked but it's a little shaky.
Cheap Fet preamp on ribbon mic
I mainly bought this to have the 20 db boost on my RM700 ribbon mic and to avoid passing the 48v if mistakenly left/turned on the channel.
It does the job without adding too much noise and colouring the signal!
FetAmp
Using it on the ribbon T-bone RB500 (which is an awesome microphone) to prevent 48V on this mic :) It sounds ok for the price. Using this device, you need less pre-amp gain, which is good if your pre-amp is noisy.
Does what it's supposed to
Jep raises the volume of the ribbon or dynamic mic very nicely.
unusable
if you have better preamps, this is quite useless
A must for SM7-B owners - Just works
A simple little device that boosts the notoriously low output of the SM7-B very transparently, and doesn't need expensive preamps to boost it. The quality is a little flimsy (any of the others of tried are flimsy too), but if you're careful with it, it's a great buy
Good amp
It totally does what it is made for. I use it with my Shure SM 7 B and this little preamplifier makes it louder with fantastic quality and I love it. Thanks.
Very solid product
I bought this alongside a Shure SM7B, effortless plug-and-play, the sound quality is not affected to any noticable extent.
Definitely a solid deal, it being offered as a bundle with the microphone made chosing very straight forward - Which personally is a plus, because I didn't want to spend ages also finding an amplifier.
A bit hot
The fet is a bit hot (I have to keep the gain @ 0 on my preamp using a sm7 so it is verry hi gain) but sounds verry clear and noiseless
Simple and elegant solution to adding gain
These FetAmps were bundled with the new SM7B microphones we purchased for a studio rebuild. They do exactly what they say on the tin and give the 7B a much needed boost. For some reason though when used with our Alice Series A desk we get a very low level buzz induced to the signal chain and this affects all three FetAmps and channels in any combination. If I try them all on another mixer (D&R Airmate) the buzz disappears altogether and the gain improvement is crystal clear so I can only attribute the issue to the Alice desk itself. Luckily the Alice has a good 60dB of adjustable gain and these channel are superbly quiet so we weren't in trouble. I still need to experiment further with another Alice Series A in the second studio and probably just need to add some decoupling to the channel strip to soft this buzzing issue. After all they are classic mixers and need a bit of TLC from time to time!
