TritonAudio FetHead Reviews
Getting +25 dB Gain with RODE Procaster + Rodecaster Pro
Before I had the TritonAudio Fethead connected to my Rode Procaster microphone, I had to set the pre-amp gain to + 35 dB on my Rodecaster Pro interface. Now with the Fethead between the mic and the audio interface, I have the gain set to just 10 dB. Overall the sound quality is virtually the same. I can barely hear the Noise Gate activation with the Fethead attached, however the EIN floor is -130 dBu with the Fethead, as opposed to the Rodecaster Pro EIN of -125 dBu. Therefore, I have slightly better SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) as the signal is stronger at lower pre-amp gain, plus the noise floor is lower, by around 5 decibels. The sound quality is extremely clean when recorded directly into my computer using Adobe Audition. So, I am very pleased with this product - it improves my input noise and means that I need very little audio interface gain to get a decent sound output.
Useful and inexpensive
I use it with Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for boosting any dynamic mic without adding noise. I can't hear any difference in sound with it, it just increase gain. Totally recommend it.
What a tremendous invention.
I love this, it is simply awesome what it does. And in such a small package. Makes it much more fun to use my Ribbon mics now
Does the job and is brilliant with a Shure SM7B
I got this to lift the gain on my shure SM7B. It does what it's meant to and makes the SM7B a brilliant studio mic -with all that I would want from a good studio condensor mic, while retaining the isolation of the really good dynamic mic that it is. The fethead was so satisfactory I have now bought a second one to go with my other SM7B.
It needs phantom for the fethead but does not pass the phantom power on to the mic itself so proects that.
It does the job.
It does as advertised : it makes whatever you plug in louder.
There's no noticeable sound difference, it's just louder.
You can even let it plugged in your SM7B (which is probably why you want to buy this thing) and forget about it.
In case you were wondering : this + a cheap focusrite or a presonus works just fine with an SM7B
awesome quality
This little thing came so well packed from the guys that make it in Netherlands :) It sits in a special cardboard cylindrical box and then it sits inside this, in a small miniature pouch. It is not too heavy but not too lightweight too. It sits in the back of my dynamic Rode Procaster microphone and it does its job really well. With this on the mic, then the cable, then my soundcard (Focusrite Scarlett 6i6), I have to rise the volume on the microphone channel up to 60% to get a good noise-to-ratio signal so my voice would sound good.
It requires phantom power from the soundcard (or your mic preamp if you have one), and it's really really clean (no noise).
If you have dynamic microphones this is very useful
Use: For Boosting the output of dynamic and ribbon mics by up to 27db
It does this well in a small form factor that's easy to carry
and fits almost anywhere
it's also well made being made almost entirely out of metal
Pros: works as it should without negatively affecting the sound
Great with dynamic mics that need lots of gain Shure sm57/58 and sm7b etc.
Cons: while it increases the gain without negatively changing the sound it's only as good as the equipment you use with it, it is not a preamp upgrade it only gives the preamps you have more gain range
Overall: i would recommend it
Looks funny on the mic
I use this on my Beyer M160 and it makes the mic look so long it's a bit funny and mic handling becomes a bit clumsy :D It works OK and I am not sure if it affects the sound in any way (bad or good). Will let you know about any sound factors if I notice them. Looks stable and well made. I recommend.
Perfect
For this price is really perfect. Absolutely does its job to increase the initial level. Highly recommended!
say bye bye to noise
This small amplifier give you the best from your quiet microphone - must have! Warmly recomending this prodicts for use with Shure SM-7B
Very satisfied!!
Fantastic low noise pre-amp in compact package!! Very helpful!
Great amplifier
Does exactly what it says it does in a fantastic form factor. I have tried it on my Shure SM57, Shure PGA48 and Superlux PRA 628 MKII. Recordings are crisp and vocals are significantly less noisy now. I record through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 1st gen.
Great quality piece of kit
The FETHEAD is so simple to use and small. It?s eliminated the problems I was experienceing with my dynamic microphones. No more turning the audio interface pre-amps levels up and getting that annoying background hiss. With the FETHEAD I can keep the interface pre-amps at a safer level and now when I record guitar and vocals I don?t have a ?flatline? audio track, I can see the sound wave patterns.
