Behringer ADA8200 Ultragain 4-stars Reviews
Overall pretty good
I used it in the studio for a while now. For the price you can't beat it. The built quality is really nice, feels solid an sturdy. I've been using this midas designed preamps for a long time and I can't say anything bad about them, they do the job. I use it as a preamp bank with my Audient id22 via optical cable. The only concern is, that sometimes when I turn on the unit, it fails to connect to Audient interface. But if you flick the Sync switch, it connects without any issues. Not sure, where the problem is, but it's not a big deal. Still pleased with purchase.
Good choice
Good device, good sound, ratio quality/price superb.
Very good
I have a home studio, and I needed to expand my inputs, I have lots of gear and I am too lazy to plug and unplug, so I got this device for expanding my inputs. It is good but if you don’t have good earthing connection the you will have pops each time you switch on or off. Big one not a jock. It is so strong that it engages my amplifiers safely relays. Also it doesn’t have enough gain. But I found a solution for all that. My advice, get the Behringer DI with it. Together they give you super powerful great results.
Does the job!
Do you have an interface that you love? Do you want to expand with ADAT in? This is the jam, right here.
The preamps are okay. The latency when using as an interface is serviceable, but that's not the draw here: it's the DAC.
If you want an ADAT expansion with pretty okay preamps and a killer conversion, this is your box.
Cheap but effective interface
I bought this to add to a UAD system to get an extra 8 channels into my UAD system via ADAT ports. It does just that! The midas pre amps work fine and it integrates well with my system. Needs a word clock connection from the main UAD interface.
Great Unit
Love what it does sorted the channel expansion
Very good expansion for recording drums
This added 8 more channels to my Focusrite Interphase, allowing me to record up to 12 channels!!!
Only problem is, that there is some clipping and cuts happening every couple seconds, I have already tried all kinds of settings and it keeps happening.
Might want to upgrade in the future, but this has definetly allowed me to record drums that sound professional overall!
Has worked flawlessly
I've used this as the ADAT master through a Scarlett 18i20 and everything works perfectly on Windows in Ableton. All the recordings seem absolutely fine, no hiss, clicks or any imperfections whatsoever. The only thing I would say is due to it being a budget unit, it could be possible that the gain of each channel is not uniform. However, no matter what unit you are using, your gain staging approach should rule this out as a problem
Great bargain
Great bargain for the price. That being said, the problem for me is that it is not possible to bypass the preamp stage. So if you want to connect to line in, you still have the preamp stage turned on.
I run a bit of outboard gear so the line stuff is important for me, specially as the extensions are for me for that purpose.
The pre's on their own are okay, and could be used to record, but don't expect them to add any magic ether.
It's great!
I've been using the ADA8200 as an ADAT expansion (duh) with my old RME Babyface. Worked wonders, no need for setups, all I had to do was connect the cables, identify the new in- & outputs on RME's driver and boom, done!
Good value
Very good for the price. Cheap way to get another functional 8 I/O to your interface. Would be good to have the option of two ADAT ports at 96kHz but does the job!
Handy add on for 16 channels
I got this to use as an ADAT add on to my UMC1820, giving an overall 16 channel recording interface. It all worked together with minimum effort in set and it sounds good. There is a couple of things that I'm not totally happy with, but can live with.
There is no pad on the channels, a pad for each channel would have been great. The other is phantom power. Phantom power is all channel or none, would like to have the option to not have phantom on everything at once. Also the LED for Phantom power, for some strange reason this is Green when Phantom Power is Off and it is Red when Phantom Power is On.
Other than that I would have given it 5 stars. Dont forget to get two ADAT cables when ordering this as an add on.
solid
Definitely not the best, but much better than it's price. Brought to compliment RME babyface pro. Works well.
Good quality for prize
It's a good pre amp, considering the relation quality/prize. I've buy one for me and one for the electroacoustic laboratory in my School. Perfect for live. Maybe for recording depending to the quality you like. A note: there are no VUmeter, just a lite for signal/peak. Is a very good expansion for audio cards with ADAT lite pipe.
Works Perfectly with the UMC1820
Great little partner for the UMC1820. Everything works well, my only gripe is that it would be nice if there was a separate stereo out to send to a mixer so that inputs could be heard without having to fire up a DAW.
Im running mixerless so this would be ideal rather than having to send indv mono outs to a mixer.
Other than that, for the money it's a no-brainer.
All good!
Took it as extension for Focusrite 18i20 sound card, so total I have 16 channels now. That's perfect for recording mid-bands at rehearsals. Very portable, easy to use, quality is very very nice for that price. Probably there is a not-super-hi-end noiseless quality, but you probably won't hear any noise that will be bad. Pretty good for draft-recordings. Quality of potentiometers could be better but it is what it is.
Great DA for mixdown
Clean and quiet. Ok, not the best DA on the market but ideal for grabbing the Adat output and getting another 8 tracks into my mixing desk (old school analogue mixing). Sounds good and doesn?t colour the sound. Unbeatable price.
Great budget preamp but has few flaws
Overall it's a good preamp, sounds as good as it should, nothing extraordinary, it gets the job done, the only thing it's missing are pad/"-XdB" switches on individual channels, individuall 48+V phantom on each channel but then again, it's so cheap that it's hardly a flaw, more like an cost cutting measurement
Does what it says on the tin
Seems to have some trouble syncing up with my Tascam interfaces, but once they're in sync this item works great. One downside is the gain knobs are a bit close to the sockets when there's leads plugged in.
At this price you can't go wrong
Ideal if you need a couple of extra channels and quality doesn't have to be stellar.
I found the preamps to silent enough and there's plenty of gain.
built quality is just fine, especially for this price.
