beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 5-stars Reviews
Superb
I use these for a small home studio setup instead of monitors. I am no audiophile but they sound at least as good as other friends home/studio rooms with decent monitors. The bass is full and rich and the highs are clear and sharp. They are also super comfortable.
Perhaps I would hear an improvement with some mid-high end sennheisers but I think for the money you can't go wrong with these.
bit overbassed, so now i would buy them only if i would looking headphones for entertainment (playing games, movies and listening audio) or use them as just reference.
If you are pointing for mastering (and it`s depending on what kind of music you are going to) i would not be afraid too, however there are much more better options out there. But at end of the day, they will do a huge service for you in producent use too.
Just keep in mind, u have to learn to tame your lowers so they will sound accurate on another speakers great as well.
So maybe, the final verdict, these are not maybe for beginner producers
Top preis leistung!!
Eignen sich hervorragend als Referenz beim Mischen, absolut Spitze fuer den Preis!!
Entry level feedback
I use this product for gaming as well as listening for music.
Gaming:
The spatial orientation these headphones offer is incredible. I can always recognise from which direction the sound is coming, giving me an edge in certain games.
Music clarity:
I can clearly distinguish between the high and lows as well as different instruments when using these for music listening, especially when using them to listen to some classical music. My music range goes from classical to rock and metal, mixed with some trance and house as well, and I've used these to listen to all of them. I do find myself tweaking the EQ from time to time depending on the genre I'm using them for, but overall I am really pleased with the sound quality that they offer.
Comfort:
They are horrible during the summer for me personally, can't really stand the head and when using these during the summer it's even worse. Earbuds all the way.
If you have no such problems (eg. during colder times for me). They are really comfortable, I can use them for hours without having the slightest discomfort.
Quality:
They do feel a bit flimsy at times, but if you handle them with care they should be fine for a very long period of time.
Benchmark
I bought this product for writing music, since I travel a lot and do not have the opportunity to carry monitors with me, this is a great alternative.I am very pleased with the quality of the goods, they sit very comfortably on my head, I don?t even feel that I have headphones on my head. The first time I use an open type of headphones and do not regret what I bought, now I can write music for 5 hours without a break, thank you very much.
Comfy studio headphones
Very comfortable, amazing sounding headphones. I would not recommend them for vocal or drum recording since they are open and pretty loud. As a mixing/listening/songwriting headphones, they are very good and also much more comfortable than most of the studio headphones.
:)
Just what I was looking for, great confort and sound...
Almost perfect
I bought these, the dt-880 (600ohm) and the hd-650.
And I'll quickly write why I picked the 990's over the others.
Comfort:
The dt-880's were amazing, so comfortable, perfect in my opinion.
While the 990's are really similar, they are tighter on the ears, and I don't like that at all, but they are still quite comfortable.
And the hd-650? They clamp like crazy, I couldn't wear these for over 10 minutes, really uncomfortable.
Sound:
Now this category is objective af, you have been warned.
I used the LP-phone-amp-g103 to drive all of these headphones so there shouldn't be any issues with the amp.
With that out of the way, lets start with the headphones that really disappointed me.
The 880's had a really lackluster low end, you could say non existing, and with basically no bass it was just a clear no for me and I didn't bother any further with them.
The hd-650 sounded like the 990's if someone put an equalizer on them that turned down every frequency past 3khz down 3-6db.
They sounded muddy in my opinion, especially compared to the dt-990's.
With that being said, I love the by some considered sharp highs of the dt-990's, everything sounds crystal clear, not "muddy" or "washed out". I listen to a lot of vocals so that's a must for me. But as I said, it ain't for everybody since some might say the highs are over saturated, and they are, but it sounds nice. It's something I'm looking for in headphones, are you looking for that? If not steer away from these headphones. Cons: they might be too sharp for some and too tiring if used in long sessions. Other cons are the fact that you can really hear if a song is mixed/mastered like shit, you can hear everything. I'm not gonna say sh*t like :"you suddenly hear instruments that you previously didn't hear" if you suddenly heard an instrument that you didn't hear before on decent headphones that's on you. But you definitely hear if someone didn't bother cleaning up the samples he used in his song, and you might need different headphones or speakers to enioy songs that are badly mixed.
price/performance: 10/10, I mean ¤140 for these is a steal, you don't get better audio quality for that price, but you probably gonna need a headphone amp as for almost all 250+ ohm headphones.
Great sound, the best I've heard. Durable and comfortable.
Rumors are true
It's as good as they say about these headphones. Best quality-price ratio in my opinion. Of course with about 6+ years old motherboards like mine, you need probably headphone amplifier to bring out the true potential what DT-990 Pro can produce.
Comfortable too and as the manufacturer says, its easy replace almost any part of the headphones if something breaks.
Best Ever
one of the best Headphones for mixing and mastering out there, I highly recommend it, sound is something else it's really out of this world haha, it's also really comfortable I was able to use for 7 hours without feeling uncomfortable, the quality is really solid, in total it's the best
Clear sound studio headphones
UPDATE 2020: after 1 year in use low frequency cause jitter. i guess you have to be overly gentle with those ones.
Original : The downside of every over the ear headphones is usually the stress the headphones are forcing on the masseter muscle ( the muscle between the jaw and ears ) as well as the heat that builds in the space between the ear and the speaker.
In the case of the DT990 Pro this is almost non exist, and provides me with hours of productive work in the wrapping clear sound.
I like the most with the DT990 Pro is the slightly open case for air and of course the deep and crisp surrounding sound.
I am very satisfied with the DT990 Pro!
Great headphones.
The headset has been in use pretty much every day for the past 2.5 years, and has never let me down.
Where other headphones/headsets leave my skull a burning mess, these fit just perfectly and can be weared for extended periods without hurting.
The sound quality is great, I use it mostly for gaming, but they really shine if you put on a movie or listen to music.
Great headphones for mixing
I bought these headphones for mixing live recordings of my band. They work really well as they have a flat response, none of the frequencies are 'hyped' making them ideal for mixing.
These headphones work best with a headphone amp, just something to consider if you are thinking about buying them.
Mixed an entire album on these.
These headphones are on my head 24/7.
After playing around with Sennheiser's headphone series for a while, I realised the frequency response was not what my ears were after, until I got me a set of 990's.
They are so affordable you should get 2 pairs immediately. The sound quality is brilliant. Balanced and rich.
I am so used to them I even mix comfortably on them.
The sound is clean, a bit unusual. Comfortable, almost not felt on the head. Earpieces nice. Comfortable.
The best headphones I've ever worn
I've been using these headphones for about a year now and I love them.
The first test I gave them was to listen to some old mixes I had made. I picked one song of which I had done multiple bounces, listened to the first and then the second. Instantly I noticed the high end was far nicer and overall was much clearer and defined than the other mix. I then checked the files and realised they were the same mix, the first was max quality MP3 bounce and the second was WAV.
I've been able to tell lower quality mp3 from wav but I've never INSTANTLY heard so much that was missing.
Then I wore them for nearly 2 hours doing housework to test the comfort level and nearly forgot I was wearing them.
I have a problem with the cartilage in my right ear, if anything puts even the slightest pressure on my right ear for more than about 20mins it really starts to hurt. I wear these regularly for hours mixing, writing, and gaming and have no issues.
The sound is open and very clear. and the stereo image is brilliantly imaged.
While perfect for mixing/mastering, they are open backed so the spill makes them not great for tracking vocals and the isolation is not great, so wearing them on the bus may annoy anyone sitting next to you.
The construction is pretty good, I don't take them out of the studio often so I can't say for sure if they'd stand up to being hauled around everywhere. But the seem pretty solid.
Symphony for the ears
Best headphones for homerecording - price versus quality. That unit has really balanced low and in my opinion not too clear high. It's many details in sound. What's more after few years of work I feel comfortable. This is best staff in this price range.
I recommend it so much! Have a nice mixs in your home studios!
DT 990 Pro
These headphones are great, they have a good sound to them but some high frequency sounds can be overpowering. very comfortable for long sessions. good for use when gaming with a wide soundstage giving you an edge when locating sounds.
Must have trance&gaming headphones
I'm a trance and progressive listener and bought DT990 for this reason + Gaming. These headphones have a great soundstage, sometimes I feel like the sound coming from my monitors! Bright high ends hurt a bit in the beginning but you get used to it in time. I'm using it with Schiit Modi Multibit DAC and Magni 2 Uber AMP. Been a fantastic ride so far. Listening to tracks like "Davey Asprey - Fallout" absolutely blew my mind. This little thing packs so much power. You can also power it very well with Android phones like Samsung Galaxy S6. Spiral cord is very good idea as it keeps my desk tidy and clean. This semi-open headphones do not isolate you from the environment, you can still hear what is going on around you to a degree, so naturally what you listen becomes audible by others. Comfort-wise it is very acceptable. I can do long gaming sessions with it. I'll also slap an Antlion ModMic 4 on this beast to create the absolute badassery in gaming audio tech. 10/10 would buy again.
