beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 5-stars Reviews
Great headphones
I use the beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro mainly in combination with a Rode Podcaster for videoconferences and audio-calls as well as to monitor voice recordings on my PC. It also provides a good experience while listening to music (the open design makes the difference in comparison to the old Bose QC15 I used before). The only thing which starts bothering me after wearing it for a longer time is when the (although very comfortable) cushions have warmed up my earlobes a bit too far above my comfort threshold.
amazing headphones !
Been using my old seenheiser for years and wanted to get a more confortable / better quality open-back headphones. After reading many reviews i decided to go for the DT990 and what a good choice i made !
The comfort is day and night from my old headphones, the quality of the equipment and the overall quality of the sound is definitely a huge step-up ! Would definitely recommend !
very very low sound
I just wouldn't use it anymore, I cant hear all the sounds.
for me it was a bad purchase.
Best Headphones
I love pair, and works great with Presonus Usb interfaces. Loud enough
best headphones i've ever used
If you're a mixing/mastering engineer and want a pair of headphones you can trust... grab these. So confy because of the open back and the best quality-price ratio i could find. + Beyerdynamic are an experienced brand that knows what they're doing
great built and sound quality
I love the mid and high range, great clarity. For me the bass range is quite nice and clear but a little bit weak. Love the made in Germany built quality. A little bit discomfort for long use: not because of the sound but the cotton around ear - maybe it's a bit hard.
My best reference, always
I've been using this for years. I know how things work on this guys. They are just, fantastic for producing, mixing, listening to music, even for a simple mastering.
I just bought the second pair after the cable broke on the other ones. They lasted for 5.6 years though.
I love them.
I think this model was my first ever studio quality headset I ever purchased. still to this day is the best in it's price range.
Even though I got better headset during the years, I still purchased this headset couple of times again just for mainstream use.
It's definitely a very good choice if you are looking to get into studio quality audio at this price range. pair it up with an amp and you got yourself a very good quality audio experience.
Also, they have spare parts for them which is even better if you plan on using them for a long time.
The DT-990 are great.
A beast
This headphones are the best you can get for this price. Period.
I can say that the headphone are very confortable for the ears, almost a pillow to our ears. The sound is also very good for the price, you can hear all notes ring out perfectly. Overall you get a really good bang for the money.
Amazing sound
Those headphones have a lot of great review and now I understand why. The sound quality is impressive. The open-ended design is weird initially but it really creates a kind of "space" I never experienced before with headphones. It makes the sound image quite much clearer than other headphones I could experience too. I definitively recommend it.
Best headphones in my life so far
I'm using those with MOTU M2 -- a very clear and full sound compared to all other headphones I've ever owned. Extra kudos to Beyerdynamic for the earpads, those fit AROUND my ears and are very snug. A giant leap in comfort compared to my Sony MDR-7506.
Studio quality headphones
I use these in my studio for mixing and have spent many hours listening to music in the DT-990's. I use headphones all the time professionally as well as privately (have used Sony, AKG, Sennheiser on different occasions) and these have become my go-to's.
I really like the soundstage and the fairly linear response they give. I'm sure there are more "hi-fi" and audiophile worthy headphones available - but the DT-990's give a good frequency representation and seems to produce reasonable mixes for me. As with any pair of headphones you need to get used to them and reference other sources as well to calibrate your mix output.
Compared to the DT-770 (closed back version) they obviously open up and allow for a lot more "air" and transient response. But the open back construction also make them unsuitable to track music since they bleed the sound into the environment.
Comfort is ok. The ear pads are soft enough and they fit nicely around my (I guess normal sized) ears. But I have yet to wear any headphones that doesn't tire your ears after prolonged wear. It's just a fact of life.
Why only 4 stars for comfort? My only gripe with these is the stupid coiled cable which is a nuisance as it tends to pull at my head no matter how I set it up. A much better option would be the straight cable which I have on the DT-770's.
The Beyerdynamic DT-990's are sturdy and built for professional use. Most importantly, spare cables and pads are available.
Good ones
More crystal sound what I had with my old Sennheiser HD 451 (2013). Was surprised with such heavy and flexible cable. Satisfied by the construction of the headphones.
High end boost
The quality is perfect. But the most important thing is sound. Of course you won't be able to mix everything monitoring only in the headphones but still, it is a very good source to double-check! But you have to be aware that even though the overall sound quality is good - there is still some obvious boost of high end. It sounds like with an applied saturator, so the best solution would be something like dsonic headphones.
Amazing Headphones
These arrived extremely quickly, within a matter of days even with overseas shipping to the UK.
Brilliant studio headphones, have levelled up my listening experience vastly and are perfect for me producing my own music. Especially awesome when you consider the price point too.

DT 990
Perfect. Bought mine in 2016 and they are still flawless. Recently I changed my ear pads and they are like spanking brand new. :)
Quality for a normal consumer
I've had quite a few headphones over the years for computer usage (Netflix, Youtube and gaming and of course since this year Zoom calls). When my last pair broke because of poor building quality I just decided I needed a more decent pair. Also I wanted to use them for more quiet bass sessions. I never had a pair that could actually handle the sound of my bass well. So I figured, Studio headphones should do.
And well they do. I use them daily for the computer usage I described earlier. For a while I took them to school which they handled perfectly. They're sturdy with a metal frame but just light enough that long time wearing is still comfortable.
Now that I'm wearing these headphones for 6-8 hours a day I do begin to notice the weight but it is not neccesarely disturbing.
So when talking about the sound quality of these. I can only say one thing: it's amazing! The open back produces a very open and light sound. The lower sounds still comes through very well. Even with the open back sound still sounds emerging. It is also nice to be able to hear yourself talking while wearing them on calls. It pairs perfectly with every device I tried to plug it into. As a result I use them for nearly anything.
As for the durability I cannot say much since I've only had them for about 9 months. But they've fallen of my desk a few times and have been carried in my filled backpack (in the sleeve included). But they hold pretty well in normal envoirments with a normal user.
To summarize: I am in love with these headphones because of the sound quality as well as the building quality and ability carry it with you. They're adjustable and comfortable for daily usage. For the price of 120 euros that's all I could ever wish for.
1 cm short of perfection
I bought them and used them with Scarlett 2i4 and Clarett 8 Pre USB. In both cases DT-990 Pro work perfectly, and for 250 Ohm headphones, they are actually not that quiet. They work in both scenarios. Even with my Samsung phone, I can still use them, but probably not on a bus or at the train station.
If I remember correctly, one high quality 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter is also shipped with them, and there is a black bag that can be used to pack them and shield them from the dust, scratches during the transport etc.
However, for a 190 cm tall guy, although they fit, would be more enjoyable if they could spread 1 cm more. As I said, they fit, but I kinda have to slightly "pack" the bottom of my ears inside
