Ernie Ball 2221 Reviews
best of the best
I've used string from D'Addario for years but these strings are absolutely great. Easy to play and a great sound. Strong deep and brilliant highs, just the perfect strings for every guitar player
Just put on a set today, so I thought I'll share some of my initial thoughts.
The difference that I noticed right away:
- They are loud strings, very clear and articulate.
- Right out of the pack, they feel very slippery and smooth. Some may love this feel, some may not.
You can really tell the tonal and dynamic difference, especially when playing clean. Respond well to pick attack and pick dynamic.
One new thing i noticed about the is that they respond really well to muted runs, things like palm muted riffs got some good punch to them.
The relation price/quality is excelent, strength, tone, and for staying in tune.
The classic!
Ernie Ball strings are known for great tone and durability - and rightfully so! I feel like you can play them for a long time with no loss of tone or playability.
Each string is packaged in individual paper sleeves so you don't have to sort them after color (but this also means more stuff you have to throw away).
Quality, Sound, Durability
Ernie Ball strings are often the first choice of guitarists and most of them stick to them simply because you get great strings for a fair price.
The sound can be best described with "balanced", it has a fine low end, very good mids, and a good amount of treble in it and fits guitars with Single Coils as well as ones with Humbuckers and the variety of Guages satisfies most players.
More of an oldschool vibe
In contrast to other string manufactors I feel these Ernie Ball Slinky series sound very rock´n´roll-ish in terms of a balanced sound, very thick and not overly bright. I wouldn´t recommend them for metal style as I think these are good strings for rock, blues, country on a lot of different guitar models.
My favourite strings
The Earnie Ball Regular Slinky are my favourite strings. They sound really brilliant and are a bit louder than Fender Strings. The only negative point is that the strings lose their great tone after a few weeks. If you don't change strings very often the Earnie Balls may be not your first choice. Since I change my strings every few weeks it is not a point that is concerning me.
Hervorragende Saiten!
Also erst mal ausgepackt und in Augenschein genommen. 5 Sterne!
vintage vibe
very good strings for a nice vintage vibe, very balanced sound and extremely useful for blues, country picking or classic rock. The durability of these strings is good, after three weeks of use they still sound good which is fair as you cannot expect your strings to sound like day one after using them for 5 months.
All in all good value!
well balanced guitar sound
The sound is really balanced, you won´t have cutting highs or muddy lows, this set of strings is offering a clear and transparent reflection of the sound of your guitar. I feel the durability is pretty normal, you cannot expect your strings to sound good after using them for 4 months on daily basis. So nothing to complain about.
Great strings with a good price
I tried several strings cause i have quite sweaty hands and i have to say that i always came back to these strings. they have a great sound and last for a long time if you take care and whipe the dirt off from time to time. best price performance ratio i found so far.
Very good - but not the best :-)
I played them for years now. But there was always these times when I wanted to check out other strings. Perhaps it's because it got boring to play the same strings a long time?!
Nevertheless the quality and sound is good. Rarely strings snaped on my guitars. In live situations - very good! :-)
Overall - second best company for guitar strings (imho) ;)
My favourite: Dean Markley :-)
Ernie Ball Regular Slinky
Ive used a lot of different strings in the 25+ years I've been playing guitar but I reckon Ernie Ball are the best considering the overall performance of the string and the price. These are the strings to go for if you're a gigging musician. They can really take a beating!
One of the best
I've been using them for a long time(3-4 years)! Of course Elixir is better with all of its technology. Ernie Ball-price is good, quality is good, sustainability is good.
Strings for every situation. They have never failed with me.
Bought famous D'Adario- threw them away!
Ernie Ball is my choice!
Realiable - haven't broken one yet.
I smash my strings when I play and this is the only brand that I have used that doesn't break and I need that reliability when live! Tone is fine.
Always delivers!
After using Boomers for years I tried a set of these, and got hooked right away. I feel like they intonate better and feel smoother than most other strings, and all this for a very reasonable price.
Ernie ball
Ernie Ball strings are used with many great musicians, so I gave 'em a shot after trying more brands. Regular Slinky are ideal, it feels great under my fingers. And remember if EB is good enough for Eric Clapton, it is most probably good enough for you.
The benchmark Ernie Ball's
When you buy Ernie Ball's, you can expect to get good durability, a great tone and a great feel. These are the Regular's, which are equal to most other manufacturer's mediums or light mediums. If you don't know which strings to get, I suggest you get these ones first. They work nicely for just about anything in E-standard, Eb-standard or Drop-D tunings. Lower than that, and I'd opt for thicker strings.
Been using for over 20 years
I am a long time user of these strings and have recently tried another brand just to see what the difference is.
That said, I have gigged all over the world with Ernie Ball's, recorded and strung just about every guitar I have (quite a few) and never been disappointed.
If you want a guaranteed result for your money...it is here with these.
Sounds ok
Classicaly that is great desision. Last time I heard from some musicians, that Daddario strings are cheaper AND better. The reason for that is that Daddario strings gives good sound longer time.
For me it is ok. Also I have not enought experience to say, the strings hav ore have not good sound. Because of that I geve 5 stars.
Beefy slinkys
I use these for the blues slide resonator - they do the job really well!
