Ernie Ball 2221 Reviews
perfect balance
I have started using this strings recently. I like big tones, and this set provides it. I play drop D, and no problem with this gauge. For me a good balance with the .11, with which is sometimes hard to solo
Classic set
This is a such a classic set of strings. I think I used these the first time I ever changed a set of strings on my electric guitar.
I've said in another review that I've never had a broken ernie ball string, which perhaps may be attributed to pure luck, but make no mistake: the quality of these is top notch.
From the shiny polished nickel to the crispy metallic sound, they will bring joy to both your eyes and ears.
Even though I'm more fond of heavier gauges these days, I always keep a few sets of 2221s around - and I probably will for the rest of time.
Slap these on your guitar and your good to go.
Ernie Ball 10's
Do the job very well. Great tone, cheap and can take a beating. I do wish that they could have a slightly longer lasting life, but other than that, they're my string of choice for my strat
Awesome strings
Really great strings. They have a good feel to them. I have never broken a set and I play everything for blues, jazz, metal, punk. All the best players use theses for a reason, they're great. Good value for money also. The gauge suits me great for soloing and rhythm playing, also respond great for finger picking. I have been playing for over 10 years and these are some of the best strings I have played. From Hetfield to Clapton use these. You can't really go wrong with Ernie Ball.
Very good strings.
They improved the sound of my guitar a lot. Love them
I love these strings
I've always been a fan of EB strings. For me, the regular slinky provide the best balance of tone and playability. I always wipe my strings down after extended sessions and these strings last for ages. Highly recommend!!!
As crispy as the get!
I've been using the Ernie ball electric guitar strings for over 10 years, mainly the Regular slinky but also the 009 and 011 sizes.
The sound of the Ernie ball regular slinky is extremly crispy, with that I mean very clear and brilliant. The quality is good and it's not many cases were a string has snappet (3 times over the years as far as I can remomber, and all those time the strings has been very worned out).
I have been using those strings mounted on:
-Fender stratocaster (American standard)
-Gibson Explorer
-Hamer (several)
-Jackson SL-3
-Peavey EVH Wolfgang special
-2 x Music man Luke II (one BFR and one custom)
The possibillity for improvement is regarding how long the string feels fresh, but this is common with all nickel wound strings regardless of brand.
good string
Always using this string for my jazzmaster as the tone its delivered really clean and nice but not too bright..it's also hardly break and the freshness stay longer even when using for a whole week.. the packaging also nice..
Good standard set of strings
I really like the sound of a new set of there strings and for that I consider this a good value for money.
However I wouldn't recomend these strings for 2 kinds of purposes: to use on a guitar for a long time or to stock large quantities for a long time. The reason being these strings age very rapidly. In a guitar you play 1 hour a day these strings will be wasted in less than 2 weeks. Stored in a dry place and the package completely closed the strings will age (even rust) in less than a 1 year.
Great strings
These strings are amazing as long as you don´t tune down or play really heavy handed fast (Slayer fast) riffs these are amazing. You just really can´t go wrong with Ernie Balls
great strings
Well, this string is my choice for a pretty long time. I like the tone that it gives to me and I also fint it easy to play on this strings. But these apply only when the strings are new (mostly 1 or 2 weeks). After some time passes, the tone gets lost and the strings get very rusty (if it is a problem for you). Actually this might be caused by the city I live which is very humid.
About strength, I have never seen any of this strings broken (I haven't seen also in 0.09 set) so it makes me feel free while bending wildly.
My choise since 2005
Ive been using these strings since 2005, and not going to selected any other strings anymore - there strings are durable and are keeping tones longer than others - would classify these to be beter than many competetive products in this area.....
Great value
I've never found better value strings than these! I keep several sets of these at all times for spares, etc.
For live use they will last well. You would probably only need to change them when they break.
However I regularly enough record at home, and these strings definitely sound their very best recording when brand new, so I change them all the time. For this reason the price makes all the difference! If you were a normal person and record all your parts in one or two sessions, then this probably won't be a major concern.
These get 4 stars from me as they are great versatile strings, but they lose their great recording tone quickly.
Working Strings
Strings are a very personal and subjective choice, but in over 30 years playing and sampling most major manufacturers strings from low end strings that break on first tune up, to the higher end claimed extended life versions I keep coming back to these. If cleaned after every use a reasonable life expectancy can be achieved.
Nice clear bright sound, and handles all the bending and sliding produced by any style of playing.
best quality retains tuning in most environments.
Best value for money by far!!
amazing sound, amazing handling, durability, quality...all!!!! ernie ball for life!
Awesome
I'm a beginner and somebody suggested that I should change the chords. So I did, and I used these. I'm not experienced enough to comment about the sound, but they certainly are good quality.
Perfectly good sounding strings
I have always turned to Ernie's for my strings, i have used many different ones but non seem to give me that tone that i enjoy from Ernies. I have several guitars i use Ernies on ranging from:
- Standard
- Beefy
- Cobalt
- Not even Slinky
I prefer the Cobalt strings the most as they sound amazing however i only put that on my main guitar and the rest get the normal Ernie strings. They are bright and vibrant, the strings, with my type of playing they tend to last 2 to 4 weeks before i start wanting to change them, this can vary on person to person as i know my friend replaces his strings every 6 months, i don't know how as mine become rusted beyond playablity after 5 weeks.
Great overall strings, they are cheaper than most for reasons however as everyday strings and so on, you can't go wring with them.
Rarely snapped for me.
When I was regularly gigging these were the strings I always used, simply because through a process of having tried many brands over the years, Ernie Balls just broke less often.
Every guitarist seems to be different though, so find your brand. These were mine.
Hundreds of rockstars can't be wrong
Plenty of well known popular guitarists trust in these strings. If you tried them you know why. I tried a lot of different strings, but always came back to Ernie Ball. They are not the cheapest ones but worth the money.
My favourite and the best strings ever made.
I have tried many strings before getting the set free with my ESP. I have not bought any other brand since. I have it on all my electric guitars, even the sentimental ones I am collecting. .... These strings do not rust easily, good sound and feel, sustain harmonics..You can buy more expensive guitar strings, just not better guitar strings.
