So far this compressor has exceeded my expectations. Having previously used the MXR M87, TC Spectracomp and some of the compressors on the Helix - something was missing. I can honestly say that this pedal has delivered exactly what it promised. With the compressor on, the change was instantly recognisable but this doesn't affect the tone in any way. It's a very versatile unit and dialling in a sound I liked was quick and easy. I had narrowed it down to either this or the Cali76 Compact Bass however, the built in FET mode on the Hyper Luminal does a great job here and there are plenty of other options to choose from. I highly recommend this pedal and can't see it leaving my board anytime soon. Certainly on the expensive side but absolutely worth it in my opinion. This is my first...

Darkglass Vintage Microtubes Bass Overd

Had been struggling to choose between this and the Darkglass B3K, in the end I waited till I saved up enough for both - best decision I have made in a long time. Both pedals have their own distinct character, however Id say this is perhaps a little more versatile. I was expecting a fairly low gain overdrive pedal however it can get pretty filthy (in a good way) with the gain cranked. However seeing as im using it as an 'always-on light overdrive' effect I rarely need the gain much more than half way. The sound of this pedal is great, and as mentioned previously its really versatile. Capable of covering a lot of sounds and styles. I play in a prog metal band with guitarists who use 8 strings so needed something which will cut through the mix nicely. The ERA knob is definitely the key in...

Empress Effects Bass Compressor Blue Spk

Empress Effects Bass Compressor Blue Spk

This is my first Empress Effects pedal and I'm pretty sure it's not gonna be the last one. The building quality is very good...it's sturdy and solid..not just the case, but also the knobs etc. It has many features that are not a surprise for me... In fact, they're some of the reasons that convinced me to choose this one...the wet/dry knob is one of them, but also all the "standard" compressor controls (attack, release, etc), and the input/GR meters. What surprised me is the "tone colour" selector. I knew it was there of course, but I didn't imagine it could change the sound so much, and I think it's a very good thing to have different options for different situations and different instruments. Oh, and it sounds amazing btw!! :)

Darkglass Hyper Luminal Compressor

Darkglass Hyper Luminal Compressor

Probably one of the best bass compressors out there. A tad expensive, yes, but I don't mind spending some dough on stuff I use on a daily basis. 3 types of compressors from DG, it's a lot more than you asked for. As far as I'm concerned, top notch gear, durable, efficient, but the neighbours wont like it. Basses so hard it drops window frames. I've been using it on ashdown/orange amps so far but I can't wait to try it on the fender rumble 250. You bet my neighbours think it's a bad idea. Excellent gear, skoll to the guys from DarkGlass.

This pedal is a great addition to my pedal collection. I was after a way of improving the bottom end of my basses without having to boost the bass on the EQ and this pedal does that very well. Not only that, but because of the three different modes I can change to a slight different sound depending on where in the neck I'm playing. It sounds very clean and crisp (and low). It only seems to struggle a little bit when playing the first five frets and open string on the E string and is only noticeable when playing unaccompanied. I only gave it 4 stars for quality because when I opened the pedal to change the battery the soldering seemed a bit messy, so clearly there were some savings there.

Empress Effects Bass Compressor Silver Spk

I have been using an MXR M87 bass compressor for a few years now, and it was doing its job, I suppose. It is one of the best pedal compressors at the price thanks to its LED level readout. However, after reading the reviews for the Empress, I was convinced it would be an improvement. Well it arrived, it’s gone on the board and the M87 will be relegated to the dusty cupboard full of pedals slowly becoming ‘vintage’. It has more control, better monitoring, and sounds amazing. Truth be told, I oft-times could have left the old M87 compressor turned off and lived without, but the Empress has a voice of its own. (Not to say it’s an overly coloured pedal, but I can hear it’s smoothing effect on my playing, in a VERY good way!) If you’re considering an upgrade...

EBS ValveDrive DI

Based on 4 reviews

If ever there was an easily accessible secret sauce to give your bass or guitar an edge, this is it. Not only is this incarnation of the pedal provide a DI, but it can also be powered by a standard (Boss style) power supply - which certainly makes the unit much more practical on larger pedal boards. Although perhaps voiced primarily for bass, I find that subtle settings make guitars come alive with a rich harmonic presence which is felt rather than heard. Of course, the drive can provide full on distortion if need be - so much do that this is the second of these pedals I own and I use them for different applications. My original Valve drive didn't have the DI and used a different power supply, but the rest of the unit functions the same. As a guitarist who lives to run a very clean...

MXR M 83 Bass Chorus Deluxe

MXR M 83 Bass Chorus Deluxe

Based on 4 reviews

I don't know if I ever tried a better sounding chorus pedal on bass. I think it can eat some boutique pedals for breakfast! Bass and treble controls are great and sure are a better feature than the mix knob or something similar. It goes from subtle chorus to vibe and beyond. So, chorus is great, but flanger? IT is magnificent, a total mad mans creation! The moment I hit that button I instantly started to play 46&2 over and over, enjoying it more and more. Housing and knobs are great but I really think that MXR should get toggle switches in place of that white buttons and a more solid foot switch, something more soft and better quality like TC ones.

Origin Effects Cali76 Comp. Bass Compressor

Origin Effects Cali76 Comp. Bass Compressor

Based on 4 reviews

To me, a compressor is the most important piece of gear a bass player can buy. When my old boss limiter pedal died, it was time for a new compressor. I narrowed my options down to the following three: - Lehle Basswitch Dual Band Compressor - TC Electronic Spectracomp - Origin Effects Cali76 Comp. Bass Compressor The Origin Effects is truly a great piece of gear. It sounds great, adds fatness to your sound, and has a lot of options. Especially the HPF and the dry blend function make this a very versatile compressor. In the end, it was between the Lehle and this one, and this was the one I ended up choosing. Recommended!

Harley Benton MiniStomp The Deep

It's a great bass eq pedal for very little money. It gets the job done, not the best way possible but good enough way for sure. Sliders click into the neutral position, so if you want to reset one band it won't be a problem. The pedal also works as a clean boost if you just decide to use the level knob without touching the sliders. PROS: -great value for money bass eq -build quality is very good -comes in a nice box with that premium feel you know? CONS: -has just five bands. It's enough for me but there are people who probably need more options
