Harley Benton G112 Celestion V30 Reviews
A great choise for a beginner and small gigs
This speaker cab is the right choise for someone, who doesn't want to spend too much money on cabs. It does what it's supposed to, it does everything a speaker cab should. I mostly use it with a Gretsch G5222 amp. The stock speaker's tone is warm and very good for blues and rock, but I think I'm gonna change the speaker to a brighter one soon.
I've had this speaker cab for over a year and it has never let me down. The quality is good, but the sound doesn't come through the cloth too well. In my opinion the grill cloth on Ampeg and Fender amps is a better choise. I haven't tried kicking the cab, but it really feels like a durable one.
The only real bad thing about this cab is the handle, which in my opinion is in the wrong place. If you put a head on top of the cab, it doesn't stay in place and it can fall off. Side handles would be a better choise.
This cab doesn't really have any special features, but why should it? A tilt option would be a nice thing to have though, since one doesn't have to place a head on top of the cab now.
There's really nothing bad to say about the cab. It's a great cab for someone who doesn't have too much head+cab experience, but it's also a great choise for small gigs. I don't regret buying it!
Ridiculous Deal.
I can't believe the quality for the price. Especially considering it has a Celestion Vintage 30 12" driver inside, which retails for more in my country than this entire cabinet including shipping! The 1x12 cabinet is constructed to a surprisingly high standard considering the price. It has metal corners and very heavy, solid construction throughout. It sounds as good as anything twice the price or more. The only thing missing for me feature wise would be a 1/4" thru/output jack to chain more than one speaker cabinet. I want to buy another one of these 1x12's and my Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36 only has one output, I will have to get y-cable to run more than one. Other than this one minor gripe it has been a perfect buy.
Fantastic Value
What can you say? It's a Vintage Celstion in a plywood open backed cabinet for the price of the speaker. Fantastis value. Great sounds. What's not to like?
Best value for money item
The celestion V30 speaker is about the same price as the cabinet which would make u think that it is a crappy box.. This is not the case.. The speaker is mounted pretty solidly in the box and i've realised that when i was playing live recently and a drunk girl came on stage and pushed the cabinet my mistake and the cabinet fell from 60-70cm height. This happened 3 times and the cabinet is as good as new.
Also the celestion V30's are the best speakers for rock/metal.. You definitely get that crunchyness and clarity out you are looking for!!
Great cabinet
So so cheap but great sound. I use it with a laney iron heart studio. Sounds great for the cleans and dirty channels. Not sure how they do it but amazing value for money.
harley
I have used many different cabin but Harley had a really delicious taste with a long time I found the tone that I would recommend to anyone looking Celestion speaker was very good.
Your can't buy the speaker alone for this price
I have paid more for an Epiphone Valve Jr cabinet and the quality of this cabinet is of that sort of quality.
The speaker is light years better though. I am using this with a VHT Special 6 1x10 combo. It really improves the tone of the amp. I wish I would have bought this back when I still had my Egnater Rebel 30. It would have been a great match.
I can't find anything to complain about, except now I want the Harley Benton G212 Vintage Cabinet too...
2 wk update: still loving it, and matches very well with my Blackstar ID60:TVP. It just gets better as the speaker is breaking in.
2 month update:
I recently decided to fully remove the back parts of the cab. I found that the tolex is very thin and rips easily.
I am not a fan of the jack and decided to upgrade to a Switchcraft to get a more positive engagement. The old jack made it too easy for the cable to come unplugged, which is not good for a tube amp.
I am planning to build a convertible rear baffle to allow me to use this as a closed back and I may swap in my Jensen Mod 12-110 so that I can play my bass through this as well.
Overall I still think this is one of the best values for a 1x12 Cab on the market.
Best Cabinet for this price!!
This is awesome cabinet for this price, you cant get better than this for 100 EUR range.
It is perfect for home use, and small gigs. Im using this amp with Ibanez TSA15H all tube 15W head and it is good combination with Celestion Vintage 30 speaker.
Many people say Vintage 30 sounds harsh, but I wouldnt say that. To me this speaker sounds round and warm. And I think it is already getting better after few hours of playing, after speaker gets broken in.
Cabinet looks good also, it looks much better in reality than in pictures.
Tolex is thin, but for home use it is not problem, because I dont move it a lot.
Great Cab
This is just unbelievable value, you can't buy the celestion speaker on its own for this price. And it comes pre wired in a cab, how awesome is that. Makes my orange micro terror sound much better.
I don't usually bother to do ratings but feel on this credit where credit is due brought this with a Bugera G5 and for the money it's very very good indeed. Solid sounds great and I would recommend without doubt. Don't think you can go wrong for the money
Excellent buy
This is a great speaker cab in all aspects for me, I use it with my Crate powerblock and it gives my Gretsch all the presence it needs, fantastic clear tone (I play mostly blues), well built, more than loud enough for rehearsal and small/medium venues, real quality. Unloaded cabinets £150, the Vintage 30 speaker itself £70 and the total package for around £80, it's a no brainer. I also recorded through it via a mic and was very pleased with the results, it sounds better every time I use it, cannot praise it enough.
Great value, and easily modded to suit your sound.
Great value product!
For the money you get a Celestion Vintage 30 in a tidy looking cabinet. With the driver costing almost the whole of the price, that's a cabinet virtually free. And it's not a cheapo cab either. 18mm plywood, open back construction, very light for the unit, convenient to carry around. What features can you get on a simple cabinet design like this one? It's covered in a grained Tolex finish which is fairly lightweight but neat. The front panel has a decent grille cloth. There's a handle on top, a single 6.35mm jack socket on an inset plate on the back and a small plate with the details written on it! What more do you want?
I bought 2 of these as a stopgap for my Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36 head until I could afford better units. I can tell you, after rehearsing through them a few times, they are here to stay. Soundwise they are a great partner for the amp, crystal clear cleans and raw loud overdrive. The only issue I could identify is that, with my amp, initially the sound didn't really contain too much bass, the H&K bass control had only a limited effect on the sound. So I tried a simple mod. I just got a 42cm square of 18mm board, added a couple of bits of wood strip to complete the rear panel mounting lip, and tidily closed the back of one of them in. Instantly I got more bass on tap, as you would expect, which can be dialed in and out now. I still have the same raw upper sound but can extend it deeper when I want. Might be worth remembering if your sound is a little lacking in grunt, though I suspect most amps won't have that problem.
Overall this is a great sounding cabinet, can be easily modded to suit your taste, is easily transportable, well made, and ridiculously good value for money.
Great quality
I can't recommend these cabs enough.
I have one of these & the 2x12 version & have plans to get the 4x12 soon.
They are as good as the big name cabs that retail for twice the price.
I still don't know how they sell a loaded cab for the same price as you would pay for the speaker inside.
Well recommended
I bought this Harley Benton G112 Vintage along with an Electro Harmonix 44 Magnum Poweramp and Palmer Pocket Amp to put together a lightweight and versatile and loud gigging rig.
I am really happy with it I have to say. The cab is worth it just for the celestion speaker it houses but to house it in a great cabinet makes it a no brainer, absolutely fantastic. I can use this 1x12 with Palmer and EH44 to provide me a nice stereo rig with my Fender HRD..It all sounds awesome spread about the stage with the HRD on one side and this Cab set at the other side of the stage.
A great Cabinet for next to nothing ;-) ...Recommended
Amazing quality.
So, I had been looking for a cab to use with my Orange Micro Terror for a while. The original Orange matched speaker was fine but only really useful for bedroom use. The amp itself is capable of so much more. After a lot of deliberation, I decided to give this cab a go... Wow, just superb! The amp growls like a caged tiger unleashed. For the first time I heard the Micro terror as it should sound. The celestion speaker is a perfect match and has volume, presence and 'meat' to spare. Absolutely recommend this speaker cab without reservation. Good build quality, smart and does the biz! Easily beefy enough for a small venue gig. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
Very good.
This is a great value 1x12 cabinet and I don't think there is a cheaper way to get a pre-fitted Celestion V30. The sound is good but having played through other V30 loaded cabs I would say you get what you pay for. Not to say the G112 Vintage sounds bad, it doesn't, it sounds very good but next to a V30 loaded Orange cab you cancertainly feel and hear the difference. No complaints about the G112 though, and for the money it's great.
I used a couple of different amps through this cabinet at band rehearsals, including a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 5, an Orange Micro Terror and a Laney Cub 10 and the sound always cut through nicely. Overall a good buy but if you can spend more you might want to.
Harley Benton G112 Vintage
At the beggining I was not sure about buying this cab but price convinced me to go for it. I have heard that Harley Benton stuff is not bad and now I can confirm that. Cab is very well built. I could not say that about my other Laney cab which is a disaster... ...hmmm maybe not a disaster because sounds very good but wood quality and tolex are not the best. HB cabinet is very strong and quite heavy. Tolex is as good as my ENGL amp's one. Celestion V30 speaker does the job but is not one of my favourite speakers. I bought it just because I know that will be very easy to sell Celestion speaker itself. I want to sell it because I am Eminence The Governor and The Tonker fan. Harley Benton cab is a great product for amazing price. Do not think to long like I did... ...JUST BUY IT AND ENJOY
Heavy Duty Bargain
Fabulous for the money, especially whilst the Euro is low against my English Pounds. The cab is very heavy, made of the good stuff, and it just works. Such an improvement over the speaker in my 1w valve combo. A bigger sound, much smoother, and with real bass 1watt works just fine in a small room. It is nowhere near as bright as the 8 inches speaker in my Blackstar combo, so I need to adjust the tone on my Tele a little to get the right sound. I love this cab, and the low price is just crazy - nothing comes close.
If you're after open back V30 cabinet then this is a nobrainer. I guess it could look a bit nicer or have a closed back option but the quality of the build is great and it does exactly what it's supposed to.
Great Cab for the price
I brought this to record with my different guitar heads. You can't complain about the price. The vintage 30 is labelled as the celestion international not the uk version.
I have done some quick guitar recordings and found that the results sit well in the mix.
Most of the time I'm putting a high pass filter on my guitar track to make room for the bass and kick drum. But has decent lows nice presence in the mids and should get better with age.The aesthetic build quality is pretty faultless.
I would recommend especially in this price bracket you can't go wrong.
