Harley Benton S-620 TR Rock Series Reviews
BEAUTIFUL SUPER STRAT!
I have been looking for two wonderful super Strats for quite a while. This one was my third Harley Benton purchase in 2024. Both are impeccable! The body absolutely shimmers! And the neck is super smooth. Both are absolutely fun to play!
Great guitar
If you are looking for a High quality guitar that will satisfy all your metal and rock needs this is it!!! The frets were nicely polished. The set up was good the neck feels great, is a bit bigger than what you would find on a strat but still comfortable to play.
A killer instrument
aesthetics: the guitar looks beautiful. arrived in perfect condition. there is not a single scratch. gold hardware doesnt look cheap at all. parts: the knobs are very tight and sturdy. the toggle switch doesnât wobble at all. pots and tuners are basic but do the job. pickups: i wasnât expecting this clear pickups to be honest. it is not muddy at all. just lacking some definition and articulation. but i am def keeping these pickups. neck: neck is a lil fat but very very smooth and comfortable. i love it. the profile is not a modern C but a regular C shape. fretboard: action is low, no fret buzz and frets are polished enough for easy bendings. floyd rose: i locked the strings at the nut and the bridge very tightly. it always stays in tune after heavy dive bombs. but for pullups, it goes sharp so need to push down after a pullup to bring it back to point zero.
Totally useless untilâ¦â¦
So I got this for my son as heâs getting really into van halen but I didnât want to spend a small fortune incase he lost interest. Guitar arrived and looks amazing! Plugged it in and it was totally unusable! Had to spend another £100 On a complete setup which involved taking the neck off to work on the neck, and the bridge was fitted totally wrong! Itâs now perfect and is easily as good as a guitar twice itâs price. Very dissatisfied with how they send it from the factory but well happy now Iâve invested money into making it playable.
Quality and Finnish superb as always, usuall tweaks as always fret polishing, new strings action and set up, once done the trem system has stayed in tune, lovely smooth fast neck and fret Finnish, my 4th guitar from harley benton and all amazing guitars, excellent playability, at a price point that puts other guitar companies to shame
Amazing
I don't know how they build such a Great Guitar at that Price it's my go to Guitar, I play it more than my Rickenbacker. 660.
Bought for my son, loves it, ticks every box!
its ok
i hated this guitar for the first few weeks that i had it (mostly from frustrations with the floyd rose system, which i had never used before). for some reason, mine just hurts to play in e standard, so i have it in eb and it plays much better.
the floyd rose that came with it is pretty horrible though. its usable at best, and after upgrading to a gotoh ge1996t, it is substantially better. i would not buy this guitar unless youre willing to put a good amount of money, and a hell of a lot of time into it.
its a damn good platform, only if youre willing to put the time into it. it is not a bad purchase, especially if youre strapped for cash short term and you REALLY want a floyd, but if you can, buy something more expensive because it will be worth it.
You won't find a better guitar in this price range
The guitar came out of tune which is expected. The floyd rose bridge was difficult to tune as I was new to this bridge type.
I changed the strings after more than one day of painful trial and error, but now that the strings were changed the sound of the guitar is really great, the floyd rose bridge works fine.
The finish and overall quality of the guitar is better than expected for a guitar in a 150 euro price range. The fretboard was really dry and needed wood conditioner, frets were cut good. Tuners feel a bit cheap but the locking nut works fine.
One small issue is that the guitar came with an allen wrench that was too big in diameter for the screws for the bridge and locking nut.
I listed all the issues I had with this guitar, I think its a great buy and you won't find a better guitar let alone a floyd rose in this price range.
My 2nd one
This one needed some frett work had to file the burrs off the ends and then run a very fine Scotchbrite pad down the neck for a final smoothing of the frets but no big deal.
Finish was excellent neck straight and tweak the Floyd a little and it's ready to go!
Entry level guitar
Very easy to get into and surprisingly well to play right out of the box.
Usually I think cheaper models need some work before they're fine but this one didn't have any of the "cheap" guitar stuff.
Won't find better at price, or double.
Had an old LTD KH202 and wound up selling it a long time ago. I missed it and decided to try to find something to give me that feel again. Saw this, bought this, and am happy I did.
Pros: The neck feels great. Smooth satin finish, great frets, and fast player. The body is a good size and shape. Balances well and sounds great. I have replaced the pickups. Didn't need to at ALL, but wanted to try a few things which leads to.....it's a great mod platform. If your wanting to try modding or are experienced, this is a GREAT place to start a project.
Cons: The Floyd is not very good. It's not a knockoff...but barely. The routing for it is done awkwardly as well. There is a lip in a very odd place that makes it very near impossible to block the trem if you so desire and given the quality of the one on this guitar...you might want to. You will either have to go trial and error or pay for a professional trem block. Now the fretboard. It's almost richlite like, but worse (if your not into that, if you are you will love it).
All in all, you won't find anything better at anywhere NEAR the price.
Great for beginners
Great guitar for those that want to get started with a Floyd Rose.
I lost all my guitars, amps, and gear to a fire 10 years ago, and now I'm finally buying my first guitar in 10 years. I also had to buy an amp and accessories (cable, picks, strap, stand, strings, etc) so my budget was a bit limited, that's why I decided to go with this option.
I was impressed at the overall quality of this guitar. It's not perfect, and it does have its flaws, but for its price, it's actually a really nice instrument.
The body feels good and solid. There's a belly contour at the back, but no arm contour at the front, so it might feel a bit uncomfortable depending on your playing position. Not a big deal for me though.
The neck/body junction can get a bit in the way when trying to reach the higher frets, and the neck feels fat and heavy, more like a LesPaul. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but do keep it in mind if you plan to do a lot of fast- shredding (It's not a fast neck like an Ibanez or a Jackson). The fretboard is okay and the frets feel nice and well-polished.
The electronics are okay. Not the greatest pickups, but they do sound good. They're hi-gain so they work well with hard rock music. Not worth upgrading them as you'd be better off just getting a superior guitar. The pickup switch/selector does feel a bit flimsy and cheap.
The Floyd Rose holds the tune really well, though it will eventually go out of tune if you abuse the tremolo bar too much.
There are some vibrations coming out of the guitar when playing an open E and G strings. Not sure where it's coming from; it might be the tremolo springs as this is a common problem with many guitars, though I sense the vibrations coming more from the guitar neck/head (maybe I'm crazy). I'll tinker with the springs and see if there's a way I can dampen the vibration.
It comes with generic strings, my advice is to change them before you even start using the guitar. I added some Elixir ones.
Even after upgrading the strings, the sustain is not great. I'm not a luthier so I'm not sure if there's something I could do to improve this other than replacing the pickups and locking-tremolo/Floyd Rose, but again, you'd be better off just buying a superior guitar. Maybe a compressor could help but that's out of my budget for now.
The paint quality is nice, and the golden hardware gives a nice touch; the guitar does look beautiful.
Overall it's a nice guitar for those who want to have their first Floyd Rose guitar. I don't recommend it for new players because the Floyd Rose just adds an extra obstacle to the learning curve, but it could very well be your second guitar if you want to upgrade from a cheap 100€ guitar/amp combo.
Again, it's not perfect, but it's a solid instrument. You get what you pay for, and a bit more.
If your budget is limited, it's a great option. But If you're serious about having good gear, You'll end up replacing it down the line. I know I will.
Huge Value for a Small Price
Keep the price of this guitar in mind as you read through my review.
Pros:
- The finish is nice
- The overall feel of the guitar is great
- It is easy to play
- It sounds good
Cons:
- Strings (will be replaced)
- Tuning Machines are a little weak (easily replaceable), they work right out of the box though.
Nitpicky Cons:
- Pickup color
- Pickup ring color
- Toggle switch cap color
Conclusion:
This is a sub $150.00 (USD) guitar, all things considered, it is a great value, you are getting more than you are paying for. Cosmetically it is a great guitar, and it is quite easily the most playable guitar at this price point. I would not be afraid to gig with this guitar at all.
In the pictures, everything looks good, but in person the black pickups and rings and toggle switch tip look a bit off, I will replace those with gold-colored versions later. The translucent red is much better looking in person, the pictures don't do the finish justice.
Great guitar with very high quality for the price you pay! As long as for the pickups, they sound nicely but bear in mind that the gain is high so it is mostly directed to hard rock music. The tremolo works well, the volume switch is not the best but it is a cheap price to replace it.
This thing ROCKS!!!
Absolutely awesome gem of a guitar. A dream to play classic rock on and can this thing hang with guitars costing five times as much or more. Can’t believe the quality for so little a price. Blew me away, wish I had a guitar like this when I started to play so many years ago, would have made learning so much more fun.
A true Gem
The comfortably of the neck is second to none! The clean and dirty sound are mind blowing ! Floyd rose locking nut it is well worth the purchase and worth more than your paying !
This is a steal !!!
Great guitar for the price
Lots of features and a beautiful finish
Great guitar
This guitars Looks, Sounds, & plays beautiful. I have purchased this guitar & another one. This adds to the 35 other ones I have. Both guitars are absolutely Awesome. I will Definitely be buying more guitars from here!
Simply Sweet
Got tired of my Mex Fender Strat. and this was a great replacement for it.
It came with a broken Low E and the Tremolo was not correctly set. But not an issue change string anyway set it up. It's perfect
