Good distortion pedal

Good distortion pedal if you like the hard rock/metal of the 90's.

For me it is a bit too Metal. I like more the 80's sound but for the guitarists who like a fat/hard sound (bit fuzzy like) it is perfect.

Best price-quality you can find.

It is a beast!

Concerning the quality: it's made with solid materials so it will be difficult to break ;)

After one year.. no problems!

I had seen a lot of reviews before I bought the ProCo RAT but still was amazed by the sound of it. Love the distortion and the different sounds you can pull out of this pedal. Love it!

Use It Just To Try Different Sounds At Home - Would Recommend

I use it for mainly for my bass guitar, just to try out different sounds at home.

Very sturdy as it is a brick, the battery holder in the back of it is a bit bent out of shape, doesn't really bother me as I use a power supply.

Sounds alright, does the job I want it to do for just messing around and having fun.

Would Recommend if you are thinking about getting it.

Perfect for Fuzz or Distortion

If you're making punk, grunge, noise, or anything dirty this is perfect. If you want a subtle pedal, this is not for you.

Amazing little thing

This little guy is amazing. I does exactly what I need it to do and nothing more. The only thing I don't like is that the paint was not perfect (it has some scratches), but that's not a big of an issue.

Super!

I was curious about this pedal and I am quite surprised about how it sounds! Very nice, thick distortion, it reminds me of a Marshall somehow. Satisfied!

If you use it alone doesn't sound so good to me. Feel like has really poor dynamics. Also at low distortion level sounds like a fuzzy distortion is blended with the clean guitar, almost like a tubescreamer but then when the sustain decrease suddently the "fuzzy" sound diseapper resulting in a really strange sound, especially when you play alone. Anyway good for more hi-gain stuff, much better if used in a band contest and really nice if you wanna get a Gilmour style muff sound.

Good distorsion

A bit noisy after compression, but the distorsion rocks.

Rock like a tank

Hard to say something new on it with soo many good reviews already written.

I can only confirm that this pedal is awesome, well built, and it deverse the hype on it.

It's also cheap for such a good famous pedals. Other brands would probably sell it much expensive.

The only things you have to take care about is if you want to put it on a pedal board cause it requiers to take off the screw that hold the battery plate.

So i let it "punish" out of my pedal board. Not an issue btw

A different distortion

I really like this distortion because it has something really different to other distortions. The volume knob goes to really loud volumes which is great, I use that for solo's just kick the volume knob way up.

I expected more

I had great expectations when I bought it and now it's back in its box. I have four distortion in my pedalboard and the fact that this thing is bulky is not helpful for the competition. Sturdy yes, easy to handle not. Still badass sound, though not particularly versatile.

If you need only one pedal ...

This is the most agile overdrive/distortion on the market.

Great adaptability, great power ... everything ...

the best

classic sauce of a dirty tone. you should hear it first, than you can judge other famous distortion/fuzz pedals. you will recognize it from every good song. built like it will last for ever and seems basic like a door bell button. just a little heavier and more square than other pedals. price is not cheap nor expensive. a tube amp about to break is a very good starting point. no cons for me.

I used it for Bass and for Guitar.

For Bass: It can produce a really heavy sound that fits in genres like hardcore punk, death metal, black metal and generally in extreme heavy music.

For Guitar: It can produce the classic second wave black metal tremolo picking tone.

It has a metallic build so you are not worried that it will break.

Excellent distortion, a classic, well worth the money

The Rat is a legend, a classic since the 70s. This is a Rat 2 (made since the 80s).

I use it on guitar, drums, synth.

It covers a range of distortion sounds and can even get a little fuzzy.

Built like a tank, surprisingly heavy.

I never used a vintage model so I can't compare, but this is my favourite distortion pedal (out of 15 in my collection).

Some people may prefer to splash out on a modded version instead.

And many companies have made competing products, inspired by this classic, in varying degrees.

Finally, there are a few related Proco pedals like the Turbo Rat, You Dirty Rat, Fatrat...

Legendary reliable sound

I had heard guitar players play the RAT decades ago and always admired the hot, distinguishable sound of 80s distortion.

Now that I am playing one, I can say: Hot sound, warm nuances, really cuts through the band sound declaring its own space.

Money well spent.

Classic

Its a classic, not much to say, if you dont have one you're missing it for sure

For me the best distortion out there.

Have this for over 5 years now, still works like a charm! You can get a lot of different tones from this with the FILTER knob, a lot to play around. The only downside is that the knobs have a lot of "sweet spots", gotta put the time in and find them.

Great sound, poor quality.

This sounds amazing, arguably one of the best fuzz you will find out there for this price. However, as mentioned by other users it has many flaws in terms of construction.

The build is cheap, and I became painfully are of how cheap when the plastic (!) DC power input broke off internally, minutes before I was due to perform. It was only a few months old at this point and had been used with great care.

The rubber feet make the unit very awkward to attack to a pedal board and its clunky size / shape and weight makes it awkward also.

I returned mine after the break and opted for a smaller fuzz that sounded just as good, if not better. won't be buying another Rat.
