Perfect for electric guitar

I bought this as my second mic after a really cheap large diaphragm condenser. I wanted something that could record my guitar cabinet and also something with a bit better noise rejection than the condenser. The SM57 is perfect for this.

I've tried it for recording various things, and the only thing I don't like so far is acoustic guitar. I've seen people get good results with it, but for me it's lacking compared with a condenser mic.

You already know what you need to know

I mean, it is the Shure SM57. Everybody and their mom has vouched for this microphone. Now, it IS my first microphone, and I was surprised as I thought it would be bigger. Feels sturdy, comfortable to use, love the leather pouch it comes with.

Now for the important part: It sounds great. It actually picks up a ton so make sure you have an isolated area to record. I fully recommend it as a multipurpose mic.

An industry standard microphone for instruments

If you buy one microphone to mic an instrument make it an SM57. High quality at a reasonable price. It has been used since the 60s and still used today in professional studios. One great thing about this mic is that you won't outgrow it. Look after it and it will look after you.

What to say about it....the BEST

anywhere in the world, in a studio there will be a SM57, it sounds amazing, is resistant, lasts for a life and its use is very flexible! I added a lot to my studio!

A must for guitar recording

So happy that i've finally got this classic mic at a fair price to record guitars in my home studio.

Except guitars i really like to use it live for my vocals cause of its clarity!

A classic for all uses

I use this mic for snare top or snare bottom and for hi-hat. Also recorded guitar amp with it. The microphone does its job perfectly. It is a great all round can record anything mic. Just not a specific mic like the bass drum microphone or a condenser mic. Just a basic dynamic mic that does its job perfectly.

It is a must in everyone's arsenal.

sturdy, reliable, polyvalent

The SM57 is a jack of all trade and master of none. It's sturdy, both physically and acoustically, which makes it great for stage. It's not very precise, which makes it less desirable for studio work, even though I sometimes use it on low quality instruments, because it doesn't pick up all their little flaws as much as a more expensive, condenser mike would. What else can I say? It's a classic, and probably the most affordable professional mike out there. The only thing I wouldn't use it for is voice, because of proximity effect. (For that I would use an SM58, which is basically the same mike with an attenuated low end compensating for proximity.) I gave it 5 stars for quality because of its sturdiness. I gave it 4 for sound because, even though not very precise (or sensitive), it has a well balanced sound. And I gave it five stars for features even thought it has no particular one, because what more do you need anyway?
