outdated, in my opinion, microphone

I prefer microphones of the other two well-known brands on my snare drum and guitar amp. To be precise - i5 and MTP 440 DM

Amazing!

Heard so many opinions on this, so I gave it a try.

Paired it with a Focusrite 2i2, gain needs to be at 3 o' clock.

Great results, nice sound for the money and for home projects.

Built like a tank!

Bought this as my first ever "real" microphone for recording vocals and guitars.

The whole body is made of metal and has a hefty weight to it. It really feels solid and I even dropped it once already. It was like nothing happened. This thing should last a really long time.

As for the sound, I am using a Behringer UMC202HD and to get decent volume I need to have around 70% gain on it. Again, this is my first every dynamic microphone so I do not really have anything to compare it with though based off the reviews I have watched this seems to be pretty standard with this mic. Sound was clear and was accurate to my ears.

For around $100 I think this is the best dynamic mic that you can buy. It is a great all-arounder. Would highly recommend!

An industry classic

It is a must have in any recording studio. I particularly like it on snares and guitar amps. Really good results with voice as well. If your looking for a not to expensive mic with really good quality this is it.

Great for professional musicians

This is perfect for average situations. Legendary, useful, resistant. You can also use this for the voice.

Classic 57

One of the most used dynamic microphones in the history of music. Great for the price and excellent sound.

There's really nothing to say about a 57.

It's a 57 after all...

Throw anything at it, it can take it. Couldn't have picked a better first mic for my arsenal. I think everyone should have at least one or two of these.

Best mic for snare. Fully satisfied.

I use it for everything

It's a well known mic for a very good reason. I am using it for my voice and also to record percussion. Build quality, sound and price are all excellent so I give it a 5/5. My only regret with this product is that I had two of them but now I only have one. I am definitely going to buy one more so I can make stereo recordings with them in the future. Thumbs up.

Everything I need

What can I say?

I use this mainly for recording vocals and many old acoustic instruments (lyre, flute, etc).

This is just perfect. The sound is great, but for vocals, you'll need a windsreen, otherwise, a lot of popping can be heard.

Need I say more?

Sure sm57, works on everything.

overhyped? or an essential classic, juries still out

excellently strong build quality, but thinly voiced. Bought on advice, only been using this for a snare drum so far, finding it best on the underside given the crispy sound of this mic. Yet to try its full range on a guitar amp or similar - While I can see why this mic has such a strong reputation, I prefer the sound of my snare even in C1000s overheads to this SM57 close up in different positions. That said it does sound clear and bright on its own and really will take a beating, both sonically and physically - for a £100 mic, I am impressed and pleased to have it in the 'tool kit'

THis mic is really really satisfied me in term of sound quality and how quiet it is, the only downside is the fact that it colours your sound depending of the distance you use it so it takes a little while to get used to in order to get the sound you're looking for

go to mic

What you see is what you get. Great mic with a clear sound: the standard for a reason.
