Outstanding

I have nothing to complain about these. I had never spent that much money on a headphone before and I bought these to use with an eletronic drumset (TD-12 brain and drum-tec shells) and they sound amazingly better than my previous one that I had already considered expensive (~80 euros)!

They are very comfortable to wear for long sessions and I use it whenever I can. They also come with different cables and an adaptor from 3.5 (normal headphone plug) to 6.3 (like a guitar plug, for who doesn't know).

Just be aware that the cables that come with it are not exactly standard as the side that goes into the headphone itself has some rubber work to fit securely inside the plug hole of the headphones. That gives some added stability if you are moving around so the plug won't come out but sacrifices the reusability of the cable. But that shouldn't matter, really.

An added plus: they fold very nicely for traveling.

Good but a bit over rated

So, don't get me wrong they're really nice headphones but for all the hype that was around them I was a little disappointed. They're perfect for recording and for plugging into my guitar amp at night but, I don't like listening to music on them. They're boosted in the lower mids and I find it really irritating to my ear. I had a pair of akg k 271 mII before which I liked and I guess they were a bit flatter, at least in the lower end. Other than that I cant fault them.

Amazing Frequency response, good step up from the previous headphones of this ATH range. I have used these hours on end Producing and they are comfortable to use, also the rotation is very useful for Dj's. Very reasonable price considering the great quality.

2 in 1!

I use them in studio with handy 6 meter cable and later on a gig with a coiled one. So practical and they sound awesome. Love the way how you fold them and put them in a handy bag. ;)

Not only for studio - for DJ also

I did a gig with those headphones - as a experienced DJ I can say, that headphones are great, for DJ use a little bit too much of highs, but everything else is perfect!

Built quality is A+++++

Comfort of use is also A+++++

On pictures they look very big and classy, but in real life they are beautiful!

excellent high quality headphones

I have been using these headphones for almost a year now, for recording and also as reference for mixing in my home studio. The clarity is so good i have listened to a few of my favourite albums and discovered sounds i never knew were there !

The detachable cable cords are very useful and make them very versatile.

Besides the sound quality, which is excellent, when using headphones for mixing, comfort is a very important factor, as you will be using these for many hours at a time, and i have to say these are easily the comfiest headphones i have ever worn, no pain whatsoever after 4-5 hours of constant use. When recording it must be noted that these do leak some sound as they are not completely isolating so don't have the metronome too loud when recording vocals.It shouldn't be a problem however if you keep the volume at a reasonable level.

They are robust and well made and can take a few falls without any noticeable damage to sound quality,my pair has taken quite a few hits and they sound just like they did the day I bought them.

In conclusion: great headphones that are a class above anything else in their price range whether you want to use them for mixing, recording, or if you're just an audiophile who wants to rediscover music these are the headphone to buy

There are sounds in my music productions that I didn't even know they existed untill i heard , an omnipotent boom of a voices and different sounds through the headphones!

As a profesional musician i give them a 10/10

Clear sound above all

It's hard to get a better set of headphones for just over 100. I've used this set for tracking and even mixing, and am indeed very please with the results. The 3 cables are a big bonus. A bestseller for a reason.

Super versatile!

I needed a pair of headphones that can be used for dj applications, mixing, recording and listening music from mobile devices and I can say that these pair can do it all!

Pros:

-They are very loud when connected to an iPad Air 2 for example keeping their clarity in sound and then connect them in a studio headphone amp and still perform very good. An all in one solution.

Cons:

-Avoid them if you have big ears . They get super uncomfortable after a while.

-Of course they sound good but not so good like other headphones in this price range like Beyer dt770 pro(250ohms) which on the other hand lacks the versatile of M50X and lacks the high volume in mobile devices.

-The material of the earpad started to peel off after a month of use

Amazing headphones.

I am absolutely delighted with these. I am honestly impressed every single time I listen to music with them.

Disclaimer: I don't have a huge amount of experience with high end headphones, the best I've had previous to these was just a ~?40 Sony pair. But you know quality when you hear it.

These are very balanced headphones and perfect for general listening or even monitoring, if you're on a budget.

The bass is deep and punchy with a nice thump and the treble is clear and crisp. I can honestly say I can even hear the nuances of the instrumental arrangement in songs with a lot more clarity.

You'd be mad not to get these. Everyone should have a pair.

Great product!

PROS

1. Sound quality. Highs are crisp, but not too bright; mids are good; bass is punchy and tight. It is difficult to find *better* sounding headphones in this price segment.

2. Build. They are very solidly built and ergonomics are great. There is no complex suspending system, so there is nothing to break.

3. Very comfortable. The new ear pads are very soft, and the headband is enveloped in the same soft material.

4. Portability. Both cups rotate horizontally 180°, and they fold vertically, to make the headphone's dimensions quite small and portable-friendly.

5. ATH-M50X have got three detachable cables: a long straight one (you can use it to connect to a source that is further away), a short straight one (very handy when connecting to a smartphone, or if your computer is located very near to where you sit), and a medium-length coiled one (for mixed purposes). The insert-and-turn locking system secures the cable to the left cup.

6. These are closed-back headphones, so you can use them in a room, filled with people, without the need to worry that you might disturb someone or be disturbed by someone.

CONS

1. Cable connectors are proprietary. But then again you get three cables in the box.

2. At 285g plus the cable, the ATH-M50X are a little heavier than similar-sized headphones.

Excellent piece of equipment

Just got these today and I gotta tell you - they're worth every penny spent. Solid build, fantastic set (comes with three removable cables and a pouch) and, most importantly - crystal clear sound. An absolute must-have for all fellow mixers (or just avid music lovers) out there!

Clarity and punch

Clichéd as it may sound these phones pack a lot of punch whilst giving clarity to a wide range of frequencies. Now, I'm no studio engineer but I do know sound and of all headphones I've used so far these are by far the best.

Good sturdy quality with quite a bit of flexibility as well though folding them together is not without some force. Personally that's not a problem but for quick hiding away you might have a hard time. They might soften up a bit, that remains to be seen. They also look bulkier (they're actually quite slim) and heavier (not super light but still) than they are. If you have a larger head I can imagine that they might clamp on a bit strong but even there they might soften up. I wouldn't know.

Good over-ear fit with barely any leakage from the phones, also due to not having to drive the volume so hard as they fit snugly over the ears which keeps the outside world away.

A neat detail is how the cable locks to the left phone with a little snap. I imagine this might be more handy for the commuter than the engineer but handy it is.

The three cables provided are also of good quality and everything comes with a standard issue leather pouch for safe keeping.

Sound wise I am very satisfied. Maybe not so surprised as these sound exactly as I thought and expected but nevertheless I am very satisfied. I've gone through different styles of metal, electronic music, classical music and the generic pops and rocks. Source sounds require very little eq adjusting but maybe some. Some stuff was a bit on the bass heavy side for me but most was just perfect.

All in all I am very happy with this product. The price is remarcable for what you're getting and I recommend these phones to anyone (especially commuters) interested in a good listening experience. Clichéd as it may sound.

Bang for the bucks

These headphones are among the most neutral closed cans in this price-range. I use them for practise with a Kemper Profiling guitar-amp, as an alternative to studio-monitors in my home-studio, and as mixing tool for live FOH mixing-jobs.

Good headphones for monitoring

I bought these headphones for use primarily when practicising my guitar, and have been satisfied so far.

The headphones are well made and feel solid. Some care needs to be taken of the hinges when opening and closing, but no more than is typical for this type of design.

The sound is clear and balanced, with good (but not overpowering) bass response. Extended use is not fatiguing, although I have found the pressure on my ears a bit too strong. I have read that storing the headphones around something (e.g. a few books) to stretch the band can help, but I haven't tried this yet.

A final good point is the range of accessories which is supplied, including adaptable gold-plated jacks - a nice touch.

Decent studio headphones

Quite compfy and good-sounding headphones for studio / home studio use. I've been using these headphones for several months and I'm satisfied with their quality and sound. A few drawbacks to mention: heavy weight and bulkiness - something that one may expect from studio monitors. Besides to that, for me it roughly takes no more than 1 hour before my ears get hot and sweaty. So at some point in future I'd definetly prefer to have more light-weight / better ventilated headphones. Otherwise - the product is very good for the price.

Excellent headphones!

There comes a time in life when you feel as though a set of top quality headphones would be a sound investment, no pun intended. Inevitably every set of headphones will now be compared to the over-priced and aesthetically childish, Beats By Dre. Well, in my view they simply do not compare with Audio Technica's ATH M50xs. When purchasing the M50xs you receive headphones with an incredible level of clarity and a completely balanced sound that enables you to notice the most vague parts of songs, and fully appreciate every instrument without anything being too overpowering and harsh on the ears.

I use these headphones both for casual listening as well as using them for practicing through a guitar amp, which is facilitated by the interchangeable cables, which is an excellent feature and improvement on the M50s.

In terms of comfort, you quite frankly forget that they are even on your head, even after lengthy periods of using them. This is aided by both the cushioned ear pads as well as the foam top that adds extra comfort.

I highly rate these headphones, and would recommend them to any music lover looking for the best sound quality at an acceptable price!

Speaks volumes

These headphones offer a high quality sound for a reasonable price. Very comfortable and they travel extremely well. Super versatile and I use them for both work and pleasure.

The high end can break up slightly at high volume, but the low end manages to stay surprisingly tight.

Great Product

Apart from the fact that they can be a little more comfortable to wear, these headphones are amazing - good, clear sounds, and flat. I use these headphones for listening to my drumming, or sometimes to listen to my master coming out of my Yamaha MG-16XU mixer. When not jamming/recording, I use them to listen to my music.
