Behringer ECM8000 Reviews
rookie opinion
Good for money, you can find on behringer site calibration file
Used for recording
I bought a Beyerdynamic MM1 for calibration, so I didn't do any calibration with these units, as they don't come with calibration files, but I tried to use them as ambient recording devices in a loud crowd, and they work quite well. It helps with the mix fullness, and are flat response as advertised, but they are quiet, and if you need to amplify them alot, some noise can be heard.
good for rough measurments, excellent for all you throw at it.
i think it is very similar to superlux ecm999, noise is not that high as some online reviews would make you think, it does what it says and comes in nice plastic case. slight bump in freq response is not that critical so it can be used for rough measurments. usual behringer low price and more than ok quality, just dont expect same results as 1000$ calibrated measurment mic..
A+
Super cheap, amazing mic and comes with a very nice study carrying box.
does the job
got it for Sonarworks. it works
Value for money. Use a calibration file too!
A very good Mic
I´m a sound engineering and I use the ECM very often to make sound measurements. It is perfect for the price you pay, and it is very useful.
I recomend it
Decent Measurement Microphone
A very solid build and does the job. There is a calibration file online that has been cross referenced with a similar competitors microphone, it's worth trying this calibration file out.
Top choice for recording noise' from neighbors
Great microphone for the price. I'm not an audio expert or anything - I bought the mic to record noise from my neighbors as proof. It does the job well enough. I chose measuring omni condenser mic because I wanted the recording to sound as natural as possible - so you can hear the room like if you were there. That's not possible due to low sensitivity but at least it still picks up some background sounds that serve as a comparison to the neighbor's noise and the recorded sound is neutral (you need to fix your headphones with eq though to hear it as neutral - for Android you can use wavelet).
One big issue with this mic is its self-noise. It's too big to be able to record "silence" in the room and it isn't sensitive enough to record reverberations of room sounds (I think that's what is meant when you say "you can hear the silence"). However, for what I need it for it does well. The self-noise is normal for this kind of microphone (measuring), so I read.
This is my first microphone (apart from gaming sets) but the sensitivity seems low. You read everywhere how condenser mics pick *everything*. Well, surprise - they don't or at least not well enough. I paired this microphone with UM2 (cheap product.... I know) and I need to crank up the gain all the way to the max (with recording level at 54 in Windows) to get decent enough volume of the noise in the room. I read online I should have set it up the other way around - windows recording volume at 100 and then increasing gain. According to a review from a youtuber Kraus Behringer um2 has a good gain so if you want to record something silent you may need a different mic.
One small tip, make sure your windows settings match those in the recording software. At first I had default windows settings (16bit, 44100Hz) with 48000Hz in Audacity then over the weeks of usage I stumbled upon the windows settings and changed then to 48000Hz so they both matched. Noise dropped quite a bit. Not of the microphone but overall recording. Much cleaner and smoother sound.
Good, but not for everything.
Good microphone for standard relative measurements in roomacoustics.
Not good for low noise applications due to quite loud self noise.
Also not good for multichannel measurements. Sensitivities differ a lot from mic to mic.
But the price is just crazy to me, so overall a good Mic.
Budget calibration microphone does the job
A budget calibration mic near flat frequency response. Do not expect miracles at this price range but a good fit for amateur/semi professional home studio use, gives a good general idea on what is going on with your room and speakers.
Unless you are an acoustics expert and chasing something accurate to the point I believe it has a great price/performance ratio.
Solid Choice for those who need this type of mic
I was looking for an option to properly analyze the sound in my home studio to properly calibrate the speakers and this mic pretty much does the job you expect it to do. The frequency response on this is flat enough that it will pick up any imbalances in a room.
To be fair this is an amazingly cheap yet effective buy that every studio can use. Planning on using this on bigger venues soon.
10/10 would recommend.
Surprisingly good!!
I used this mic, in conjunction with Room EQ Wizard, to analyse the front room in my house (used for a mixing studio). The mic worked perfectly & the results have made a huge difference. 100% recommended.
For just few dimes, the Behringer ECM8000 is an incredible value and can really make a definitive improvement in your work.
A friend of mine used to sing with excat this microphone. The result was surprisingly interested.
Perfect
Used as a measurement mic on tv clarity and it’s perfect
ECM8000
It directly changed the hearing and sound field of my mix, and it gave the correct sound in addition to the recording studio. Highly recommended!
It worked very well for a home studio
I bought this to use with Sonarworks and it just works. It is by no means the best in the market, but I think it does what it promises. I am very happy with how it performs. I recommended it for use at home.
Accurate, cheap, what else ?
Don't look for expansive microphones for your acoustic measurements, this one is largely good and really correct if you calibrate it properly before measuring (take into account its frequency response curve who could lead you to think you have acoustic issues if you were not aware of it).
I usually don't like behringer and cheap products in general but this one is a really great product
A gamble but itâs cheap
These mics tend to be impressively accurate up to around 5KHz and then they seem to vary by around +/- 2dB above that between mics. High noise floor. Construction and clip is fine. Nice carry case but it’s way oversized for it.
Cheap alternative
Cheap alternative to brand measurment microphones as well as bundled ones with sonarworks. Only flaw is not getting calibration file but considering the price it hardly can be any minus for this microphone. A+
