EBow EBow Plus Reviews
Great toy for guitarrists
I play in a pro cover band.
And I'm struggling to use the E-bow in a couple of songs, but is difficult to find a spot where the unit can shine as it deserves...It produces infinite sustain on one single sting. Forget about chords. You only get infinite sustain on one string at a time.
I love to play with the envelope of the sound (Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release) There's not other way to easily manage this without an E-bow.
So...interesting sound, but hard to use it in a live situation,
Sweet sustain.
Works great, you don't get a battery with it so keep that in mind while ordering.
Really cool item
I use it for experimenting with different sounds together with several effect pedals. Works really good, however a lot to explore and to experiment.
It can be used in different situations and depending on what music a person plays. It can spice up your solo in a rock band or open new possibilities when making ambient music soundscapes.
pros & cons:
The e-bow as such is a big pros. :) Actally hard to say anything bad about the item.
E-Bow E-Bow Plus
Comes with a demo CD and a tips book that will help you get started. Best way to learn is to experement with it. Such a great addition to your sound. Just won't believe what it can do.
It's an E-Bow!
Not much to say there really, it's an e-bow... I am still trying to learn the ropes of using this thing. Skipping strings is really hard without a lot of extra noise, but this is purely my inexperience in dealing with this item.
Sound-wise, I am getting great sounds after I learned to control it somewhat. Sigur Ros fans are gonna love it (and obviously, must buy one). For additional quirkiness, use it on an acoustic guitar!
I wouldn't say that this is an indispensable item, but for a curious and adventurous guitarist (or even a bass player, or for that matter, any stringed instrument player!) it might prove a very interesting addition to their arsenal.
Beautiful tool
Highly recommended with humbucker pickups!
Noise and volume jumps are the biggest problems when used with single-coil guitars, even if it still remain highly usable.
A good delay and/or reverb recommended!
Simple yet amazing piece of gear
I use e-bow during song-writing or jam sessions. It has been an essential tool for me, since it manages to elevate my ideas and melodies.
Pros:
1) It is simple to use (only two modes) thus easily mastered. 2) The change in a song's tone is drastic when used (compared to other pieces of gear that create unnoticeable effects).
Cons:
1) It can break easily (if it falls down).
Generally, highly recommended.
Great fun but very difficult to use with bass.
This is a great little product. The casing and switch feel a little fragile but only time will show how they hold up. I was intending to use this for bass guitar but the guiding tracks on the ebow doesn't line up with the strings on a bass guitar. I was aware of this before I purchased it but I had seen videos of people using it for bass and figured this could be learned easily. It turned out it is extremely difficult to use it for bass, requiring a LOT of practise and precision. After a couple of hours of testing I still can't get anything useful out of it. On guitar on the other hand it sounds great and is reasonably easy to use (although for once reading the manual is actually very much recommended!).
Get yourself an EBOW!
There aren't many tools that dramatically change the way you play guitar, but the E-Bow certainly does just that!
The E-Bow is a battery powered electronic bow, capable of creating a wide range of sounds, depending on the skill of the player. Although fairly easy to create the smooth attack and long sustain - almost reminscent of synth pads - sounds, with practise users can recreate sounds of cellos and string instruments! It can however take a lot of time to master these techniques.
E-Bow features two modes of functionality - normal mode, which creates an infinite sustain on the note played by your left hand, and harmonic mode which as you may expect adds a harmonic, creating a rich, thick and lush tone.
E-Bow can sound fantastic in the hands of the right player, and is a great tool to provide instant inspiration! I personally use it as a studio tool - when you would usually use a synth to create an ambient pad or background sound - E-Bow is a great alternative!
Full of fun
It is a perfect device. You can produce very good sound. This device is much suitable with fretless guitar
Pros
Works well
Full of fun
Cons
Switch for mod changing is not solid.
Little expensive.
No battery included.
You need time to learn :)
a classic tool for the creative guitarist
Firstly don't expect to use this straight out of the box and be an expert. It takes time to master the technique. I managed to get some quite realistic cello arpeggios and of course the sustained howl that is typical of the ebow.
One of the things I never expected for example, is the ebow really loads the pickups so much that a clean Fender Hotrod deluxe with the guitar on 50% volume sounds like I am going through the overdrive channel. Everything has an ebow sound no matter what you do with it, which is why it sounds so similar on so many records.
Obviously this is never going to replace a plectrum, you can't play polyphonically with it - it is for single notes only, BUT if you fancy some weird synth like sounds and using the feedback switch some harmonic screams it is something you should really get.
More fun than a bag of gerbils.
Lovely little thing
Bought it out of curiosity and it's a really fun gadget.
Can't really do much live with it without a bit of thought and work put in but it's really fun at home.
Unique and great to have around the house.
I'm glad I bought it, finally.
I had read many mixed reviews of this product and I'm glad I eventually went and ordered one. It's a totally unique sound and if you're interested in this kind of thing, it's a must have piece of equipment.
The build quality is very plasticy, but I guess that keeps it light, it is a hand-held device, so you don't want it to be heavy at the end of the day.
The normal and harmonic settings create totally unique sounds and there's hours of fun to had just messing around with it, but there are also loads of techniques if you look up tutorials on it. Things like mimicking cellos, flutes, strings etc.
I can't speak for you, but I'm very glad I bought it.
My Experience with this item
I like the item does it job. The only thing that bothers me is the material, which I think it could be better. I guess that if I let it drop on the floor is the end of it. Otherwise yes I recommend it and I am glad I got one.
I really like the E-Bow because it allows you to get an infinite sustain on any electric guitar. It has two settings: with the first, you generate a rich, warm sound, with it's intensity growing as you approach the E-Bow towards the pickup; with the second setting, you generate an harmonic on the fret you're pressing.
Either setting provides a soundscape-like sound, very ethereal: add some reverb and you're in heaven.
The setbacks on this gem are the price tag and the unability to generate this type of sound on more than one string at a time, quite like a violin. Maybe that's why it's called an E-Bow. :D
Too Much Fun!
I can't believe how many effects this small gadget can produce. It good for makes atmosphere. If you need a string patch in the background, or some brass, or a cool solo sound, get it and practice using it. It's as easy to use as a slide and can do roots. harmonics too.
Works with Bass Guitars too! And this is so amazing !!
The best E-Bow
Use: I sue this product on my guitar and bass. I have played a few professional gigs with it and it has performed flawlessly.
Clarity: The sound and clarity is very impressive. It catches frequences from low frequency strings of the bass to high frequency stings of the guitar.
Pros/ Cons: this product does look delicate and can get lost easily due to its size.
Comprehensibility: This product is easiy to use on a guitar, but on a bass it needs practice bcos this does not sit on the bass strings as it dues on guitars.
Great effect!
I love E-Bow... it takes away the difficulty in getting a good sound from actually bowing the guitar. It can be difficult to get a nice sound and sustain - however, E-Bow is perfect to achieve this!
I bought this to try and use it on my bass but it doesn't handle that well with the thicker gauge strings so I was a little disappointed but on guitar it works pretty well after you find the 'sweet spots' on your pickups. A bit finicky but sounds great!
I didn't think I needed one
This device is very much a 'one trick pony', but once you get used to how it works and what it does it is great fun, it certainly adds some new sounds to experiment and play with. The only thing I have not got used to yet is how difficult it is to move from string to string smoothly, though I am sure that is just a matter of practice and the gaps in my abilities rather than the fault of the device. In short thios exactly what is described, and it does what it is designed to do efficiently and clearly, very good.
