Shure SM58 LC Reviews
The most sought out mic
The Shure SM58 is one of the most recognisable microphones in the world - and for good reason. It is the main stay of many a hire companies microphone hire stock. Practically unbreakable, and if you do manage to drop it from a high stage / skyscraper, you can also buy a replacement pop shield. Very suited to rock, or other musical styles that need powerful vocals. Make sure your singers lips are touching the pop shield to get the best results, though, unless they have very good mic technique. The proximity effect (increase in bass when you sing or talk close to the mic) makes this important. If the singer is a foot away from an SM58, the chances are they will sound thin, and you will also have gain before feedback issues....
Just what you need
Perfect for vocals, clear and crisp. A classic!
This mic has been a standard in recording and live applications for many years. It delivers a strong, full, clear signal, specially in vocal use. For instruments, the SM57 is recommended more often, but the 58 will do the job as well if you have to buy only one of them.
This model doesn't have an "on/off" switch, which is a con for me (but I knew it before buying). If you - like me - work by yourself, and is far from the mixing console, it may be a problem in the case of feedback or volume issues (as you can't simply switch it off when some problem occurs).
Apart from that, it is VERY well built, heavy enough to give a good feel on your hand without fatigue. I've been using for live vocal applications and has served me perfectly! Thumbs up!
Great Mic
This is one of those microphones that you buy knowig what to expect and it never disapoints you.
It's is a very durable mic and it has great frequency response to vocals.
If your starting your singer career or hobbie I highly recommend this microphone.
Bottom line: Good quality for good price!
Classic
What can you say about the 58 that hasn't already been said? THe most important thing to know is that you wont be disappointing with this mic.
Workhorse
Why bother with anything else. The SM58 is the standard workhorse of every touring or gigging musician. Virtually indestructible, good warm tones this mic has earned it's place in the Rock 'n' Roll hall of fame
Its a classic for a reason
This mic is great for live and even studio work at times. It's solid and will last a life time even if given a rough ride! If you're in a very very tight rehearsal space you might want to look at something with a narrower pattern to get less pick up from other instruments but that's the 2% of time I would opt for something else.
what's to say?
Industry standard mic. does what it says on the tin. Nuff sed.
Erm it's a 58
Rock solid workhorse. I'll probably get hung drawn and quartered for daring to say this but there are better sounding mics around for less money these days but hey this is an age old stalwart. Built like a tank won't let you down and almost anybody can get a reasonable sound out of one.
SM 58 WORKHORSE!
Although it isn't the best mic out there ,
it provides an outstanding quality!,
it can be dropped from the highest building and still work ,,,its indestructible
Shure - the industry standard at a hard to beat price
You won't find a better Microphone for the money and Shure continue to deliver a quality product at an affordable price.
Industry Standard
The title says it all, workhorse Mic if bought at a decent price
Shure SM58 Microphone
A solid, tried and tested microphone for any gigger. Takes all the knocks and keeps pushing out a vocal signal that's easy to work with. Recommended for anyone unsure of what mic to go for.
This is a fantastic mic
Absolutely love this mic, excellent quality
THE live mic standard for a reason.
I've seen people use cheap SM58 look-a-like mics on stage and they have no end of problems with feedback because the cheap mics just don't have the frequency response of a real SM58 they have to up the mid and highs at the desk thus causing their mics to squeal like little piggies.
You don't get that problem with an SM58. Not only are they built like tanks and will survive your lead singer throwing one on the floor in their typical diva-esque rages over and over again, but they just sound great. Full stop.
I've never had a problem EQing an SM58. Not once. Plenty of problem EQing cheap look-a-likes though, so don't waste your money. Buy a proper road-tested SM58. You won't regret it.
You know what your getting
We bought this for the lead singer in our band back in 2010. It's used 3-4 nights a week since then and has given no trouble at all. It really suits his voice and is bullet proof. The casing is solid and the grill will take a beating.
I've tried it myself, (I have a deep voice) and while it does the job ok for me I prefer to use an EV N/D767a.
Then again my EV doesn't suit the lead singer at all.
With the sm58 you know what your getting, a good sounding reliable mic and that's why you find them on festival stages, theatres and clubs. It's a great all rounder.
A industry standard microphone for a good price
You can't go wrong with a SM58, you just can't!
It's used on stages over the world and is know for it's durability.
The sound is quite decent, not something I'd use in a studio (exept on harsh vocals perhaps), but live and on rehearsal you just can't go wrong!
All Time Favorite
I think i don't have to say a lot about the Shure SM58.
This Microfone is probably one of the most used Micros in the business.
It has a very clear and original sound. You hear exactly what you are speaking or singing, nothing more or less.
That is what a good and solid microphone has to do.
It's a pleasure...
I just wanna say that this is my best friend on stage!
I'm a singer in a Hard Rock Band and after trying different microphones, I decided in favor of the SM 58. Not any other tool can offer so many well balanced qualities that are necessary on stage. Even if you need to boost a snare drum or a guitar box (well I know, this isn't the ideal situation...).
At the moment, I've got six SM58 from different ages. One of them is now nearly 30 Years old!!! And it works, and works, and works...
Even when it fell down and if I sweat all over and kiss it too much... (all singers will know what I mean :-P)
Excellent and robust live mic
I am very satisfied with this classic mic from Shure. The sound quality is excellent, it has a rugged design, suitable for live performance. The super cardiod diagram really helps suppressing feedback. It does not require phantom voltage and it has no switch or other gadgets which could complicate work of the sound engineer. For live vocal performance, this is definitely a very good choice.
The best in the industry!
I wish this came wireless! SM58s are the industry standard of wired microphones. They pretty much are indestructable - totally worth the price!!
