tc electronic Flashback 2 Delay Reviews
Versatility at its finest
Everything you need in a fair sized housing that's durable.
TonePrint editor makes this pedal anything you want it to be.
All you need
Very good delay, specially for the price. I love how you can connect external footswich as a tap tempo option. Mash is very useful, also the looper and its stereo, so I dont know what else you could wish for. :)
GOOD SOUND AND LOTS OF FUTURES
Use with guitar
Must spend some time to figure out all the futures
With extra tap tempo pedal is a fantastik delay
Good value
Aside from the lack of a tap tempo, offers a lot of features in the additional software, where you can really make this pedal your own.
Best delay for price with lots options
One of the best delay pedals out there for that price point
Very versatile delay pedal, with near infinite variability with the tone print capabilities.
The stock delays sound great and is one of my most used pedals on my board. I mainly use it with a light fuzz and reverb to get very tasty ambient sounds. To be honest though, this pedal can meet near every delay requirements.
Even though it is not a main function of the pedal, the loop function is ok, but cheaper loop pedals would do a better job.
I would give the features 5 stars if there was a tap tempo functionality. But after spending a lot of time with the Flashback 2, dialling in the correct repeat speed on the fly became easy.
The casing and switch are built to a high quality and produces great tones. I just wish sometimes it had a tap tempo function.
Best affordable delay of all the time!
It’s my fourth Flashback :)
I bought first for my first pedalboard. Then sold It and bought Flashback X4. Then sold it and bought Strymon Timeline for me next pedalboard. But I missed blue delay box, so bought third one to compliment my full setup.
This year I started play Bass. Builded my Bass pedalboard and bought fourth Flashback but this time with MESH.
Why I love this pedal so much? Because it can do so many things, especially v2.
- 3 toneprint banks where I can load not only delays but also chorus, flanger, vibrato
- looper, so I don’t need another pedal on my pedalboard for that
- stereo in and out which I’m using sometimes
- small form factor
- great build in delays
- MESH which can be real fun
- app where I can setup almost every parameter and assign it behavior to specific knobs or MESH.
Summary
This is my favorite pedal of all the time and will stay with me until the end!
What a piece of heaven
What to say about this pedal?
Absolutely one of the best delay pedals out there.
Initially I was thought in to buying it after hearing about this new "Mash" feature the serves just like an expression pedal build on the pedal itself. I mean, that's just genius. And I just had to have one of these.
Besides that awesome feature, all the delay options and loop are just amazing.
Still don't fell I've explored this pedal to 100%, but what I've tried so far, sounds just perfect
One of the best pedals I've bought
Exactly what I needed and then some
I like a simple rig: a wah and a boost going through a high-gain amp, and only a few modulation effects, like the holy trinity of the 1980's: chorus, delay and reverb. I did not need any space or avant-garde echoes. After using an analog delay for a while I decided to get the Flashback 2 because of its good sounding 2290 and tape plus solid construction.
I ended up, however, playing around with almost all of its delay repertoire. Especially with the built-in modulation "pedal" (the switch is pressure sensitive), there's an enormous variety of really good sounding delays and echoes.
With effect pedals everybody has their own subjective preferences so it's very hard to compare them. That said, the Flashback 2 is objectively a very well built, very good sounding pedal with many delay types. It may not have as many configuration options on board as a dedicated, high-end delay pedal, but you definitely get your money's worth. That said, the Toneprint software lets you create customized delay types and in there you do have a huge array of options, but you won't be doing this on the fly.
I am very pleased with the sound and construction quality and would recommend this to anyone looking for a solid and straightforward delay pedal.
Incredibly Versatile Delay Pedal
I have been using this pedal for several months and I am incredibly pleased with it. After searching long for a pedal that could satisfy my needs, I finally have ended up buying this one. First of all, the material quality is top-notch. As I held it my hands for the first time, I could feel the quality of the product. Even the paint over the metal case felt premium. The pedal can perfectly simulate classic delay tones such as TAPE, ANA, 2290 etc. But the fun begins when you start using the TonePrint functionality. It works like magic. Before I bought this, I was skeptical on how I could install a delay tone by simply holding my smartphone to the pickups of my guitar. But when I tried it, it simply worked like magic. You can either create your own delay tone or you can install the delay tones of famous guitarists. Their tone library is quite large, you will never be able to try all of them, which is in some sense quite nice. The mash button is fun to use. You can customize what the mash button does for your own tone print. For each pre-installed delay mode, the mash button does something else, which is nice. As if it was not enough, it even comes with a looper, which is actually quite usable. Despite its abilities, this pedal is very easy to use. It took me less than 20 minutes to understand all of its features and how to use them. Since I bought this pedal, it is on my pedal board and it is always on when I play. I am never giving it away.
Awesome pedal
This is a great pedal. Really small and sturdy, delivers good sound. The looper is quite awesome as an additional feature and the fact that you have room for 3 other effects is really cool. I bought a charger for it since i use it in live setups.
This pedal is just awesome, all the 8 delays sound great and the tone-print function allows you to create your own delays and store up to 3 on the pedal. The MASH function is also very cool once you get used to it but be advised that the switch doesn't click and sometimes you have to look at the led to be sure if the effect is on or off.
Pros:
Good variety of delays
All the delays sound great
Tone-print is a great tool and it really expands the possibilities
The MASH function allows you to control the effect amount very easily once you get used to it.
Cons:
The switch doesn't click when you press it which makes it a bit difficult to be sure if the effect is on or off.
The Flashback 2 Delay is beautiful!
Great delay
Got this delay to use it with my model D and does what it says with great satisfaction.
A lot of delays to choose from and with toneprint you won't run out of options, plus the sound is too good for what little money it costs.
Build quality seems solid as well.
Robust design and clean tone
I use Flashback 2 in my pedalboard as main delay. I have switched from Boss DD7. I like the possibility of saving your own setup - 3 places for tone-print which Boss does not provide. I would appriciate to have one more input for tap tempo - so you don't lose stereo option. Mash function is just for fun or very specific songs - you will not use it so often.
Pros - robust design, versatility in quite small body, SHIMMER!!!
Cons - tap tempo input integrated into stereo input. You need to make modification to your old tap tempo pedal - change mono jack to TRS! You can find a tutorial on YouTube.
Really satisfied with this Tc Electronic Pedal. it wil stick in my pedalboard for a while. Had my old analogue Ibanez Ad9, but was looking for something substancially more dynamic and polyvalent. the tc electronic Flashback 2 Delay offers you that for a fair price.
pros -
substancial ammount of delay options
user friendly controls and interface
tone print
price
creative optiond are endless
cons -
honesty i tought the pedal could be a bit more robust and sturdy. but not really a probem.
overall i find it a great delay pedal. simple yet complex, dynamic and objective. very fair price for what it does. If you want a good delay pedal, easy to use and that won?t break your bank, the tc electronic Flashback 2 Delay is a great option,
Best value for the price
I use this for synths and it works well with the high output of these instruments. Lots of usable sounds, from subtle ambience to more intensive soundscapes. Not a big fan of the shimmer sound TC offers, but all the other presets sound excellent.
Very nice addition to the pedalboard
Before the Flashback 2 was on my board, I used the tc electronic Echo Brain analog delay. It sure was a great pedal, but I was in need for more versatility.
I always kept this option in the back of my head ever since it came out. I already had the Hall of Fame 2 and I absolutely loved it. The mash capability especially blew my mind. In combination with the toneprint functionality, this was by far the most versatile pedal on my board.
I could expect similar things from the Flash Back 2.
After the price drop (I remember it retailing for around ¤180,- euros prior) I immediately ordered one. When it came in the mail I tested it. And boy, my expectations were exceeded. I was jamming all day with this pedal just to find out what it was capable of. There are a lot of stock settings to choose from with three additional toneprint slots. Every single one seems to have a different reaction when pressing down the mash button. This mash button is pressure sensitive by the way, so the amount of the added effect can be controlled.
It truly is an amazing pedal!
more then a delay
This one stays with my setup, replaced another good delay but this one offers that extra more, you can dial some parameters in with your foot??!! yes indeed, great thing, i used to do those things bending over turning knobs with my hands, now with foot, great!! hope the pedal will last also as long as it needs... we'll see.
A bit disappointed
Right. This is a very good pedal, and if you don't need a tap tempo you might be happy with all possibilities of creating your own presets, zylion of TonePrint sounds, and you can write additional 3 presets in ypur pedal (some app TonePrint presets, 3-4 so fa,r doesn't load)
I owned previous version and had no idea that new Flashback 2 was deprived of tap tempo ! What a shame....
If I had known abut it (no tap tempo) I wouln't have bought it.
