A must-have for dynamic and ribbon mics

I use it with all my dynamic and ribbon mics. On some interfaces, especially on scarlett (I use 2i2 2nd gen), I can hear the difference between two SM7B mics, of which only one is attached to a FetHead.

It makes me feel secure knowing that expensive ribbon mics are protected from phantom power, which I did accidentally turn on in the past :(

You can't go wrong with it. There are no buttons. I plug it into my mic, attach an XLR cable and it works.

Some mixers don't allow you to turn on phantom power for each mic input separately. FetHeads make it very easy if you're using a combination of dynamic and condenser mics. Using FetHeads, mics sound better with phantom power.

These are 4 advantages of a FetHead. So far, I haven't found a single disadvantage. In my opinion, this is a must-have item for dynamic and ribbon mics. Of course, you could buy a more expensive alternative, but there is no cheaper one.

If you spend a lot of money on a studio mic, why not add a FetHead which so many recommend?

Great value for your money

Love it! Can't say anything bad about this item. It does the trick!

Perfect solution and sonically invisible

I like to keep these on all my ribbon mics for two reasons: 1. they boost the output of the mic with 20dB without any noise or coloration and 2. they protect your vintage ribbons from accidental phantom power.

I got this in an SM7B bundle and is just what I needed for this mic. With my MOTU M4, I'm able to get a crystal clear signal by turning the gain knob to 45 -50%.

must have for any sm7b owner

just tried on my shure sm7b that runs through a usb soundcard with decent pres (Komplete 6) mainly for recording preproduction stuff.

If you mind to use the sm7b with standard pres conside to use the triton fethead. zero noise. made its job perfectly. now the gain pot is perfectly matched with the mic.

Simplifies dynamic microphones with possible noisey interfaces

I use the triton FetHead with an RE320 - and a scarlett 2i2 - for online teaching (covid means teaching from home). Tried it with a 421, and a 57, and a beyerdynamic mkii, which all respond well.

Really simple to use, plug and play.

Nice clear clean gain boost once phantom power is on

No change to tone detected, but I haven't gotten Forensic with it, the boost in gain means less gain on the preamp, so no noise from lots of gain on the interface, and seems clean with long cable runs - haven't gone beyond 10m cable/run - but I'd trust it, and try it with a longer run, if the need arose.

It's plain and simple, - no features, no buttons or dials or switches,

feels sturdy - not sure how it'd take a knock while in the microphone, (if it took a knock looks like it could damage itself or the microphone) but once it's unplugged it transports easily - very small, could fit in a pocket or a pouch on a backpack, very easily and seems like you could drive over it without any issues.

Very happy I bought it, immediately made me want to buy another - perhaps the germanium one.

Simply works, fixes most issues

Purchased the FetHead to solve the issue of my Audio Interface not providing enough gain, which resulted in a lot of background noise.

Putting the FetHead in between my Shure SM 7 B solved the issue immediately, providing enough gain to have a clear audio signal.

Just works

It is small, inconspicuous and just works. Great for "fixing" audio interfaces with horribly low gain, like a Presonus Firebox and Audiobox.

Before FetHead the XLR inputs were unusable.

Simple and Effective

Dynamic microphones, could only get the level before with the pre-amp gain right up, making fine control difficult as it was sudden-death. But, with the FET-head in the line, got a good signal, and still lots of headroom on the pre-amp and fine control. No messing, no tweaking necessary. Requires phantom power. Excellent purchase

Love this, better than cloudlifter

I looked at this vs the cloud lifter alternative, it has a very similar noise floor but it's soo small it's very very easy to run inline. A must have for mic's like the SM7b. gorgeous sound, easy to use and doesn't pass through phantom power so al my mics are protected =D

Simple wins

A simple but ingenious solution (paired with my SM7B). A must have for the gain-hungry mic and by far the simplest solution. (Note this is the 'straight' version - not the one with Phantom Power).

If you have an SM7 you cant live without it.

Gives a great deal of extra gain, but if you are here reading this, perhaps you already know it. No noticable noise for me, just helped me not driving my pre-amp crazy.

Essential for Rode Procaster

Without this little guy, it's pretty touch and go what kind of quality I will get out of a mixer with the Rode Procaster. The Procaster is gain hungry, and without some kind of help results in background noise in recordings. I bought this, attached it, and boom - clean tone. I have used this with the Procaster and a Steinberg UR22, Zoom H6n, and a Rodecaster Pro. Even the Rodecaster Pro, which supposedly has decent preamps, needed the help of the Fethead. So: if you have a Rode Procaster, I would say it's almost essential that you get this to go along with it.

Use with certain dynamic microphones in certain circumstances

I bought the two Fethead Phantoms for use with a pair of condenser microphones that were of good quality but were under performing on output and required a boost. Having looked at the Triton Audio product range on their website I decided to buy a Fethead (for Dynamic microphones) as a prerequisite to buying a Shure SM7 which competent reviewers said needed a microphone preamp.

In the event the SM7 was not purchased, however I found myself in a situation where I decided at short notice to mike an acoustic guitar not with a condenser microphone as planned but using a Shure SM57.

Essentially I was recording a small group of singers, singing sea shanties, one of whom played the acoustic guitar and sang along at the same time.

The Triton Audio Fethead did precisely what it was meant to do and lifted the output level of the Shure SM57 to a level on a par with the condensers that covered the vocals. In the event the signal was a little ahead of the level required for a guitar to be heard in background and the level was cut back in post-production. I feel sure that cutting back is much more preferable than boosting and introducing any unwanted noise.

I am therefor very pleased with the Fethead and will continue to use it regularly in similar circumstances.

A must have for any SM7B

This piece of equipment does wonders for a Shure SM7B. I can definitely recommend it!

Lifts the signal up and does what it says.

I haven't noticed any change other than an improved signal.

What brings the Shure SM7B to life

I bought it for an SM7B. On first listen, the 55 dB preamp (Rodecaster Pro) brought it to life, but at the time I hadn't heard what this mic could do when there was plenty of gain above 60 dB. But not only can this preamp be used for hungry microphones, it's also perfect for noisier preamps. Dynamic microphones stay super quiet this way, with no background noise filtering in.

Good Preamp

Used with sm7b with no problems great clean boost for a quiet mic.

Excellent

I did not expect a little piece to have such a nice features and quality. Excellent addition to my Shure sm7b. Recording has become easier and simpler, provides and extra going and tone compared to condenser mics I have tried. I love my Shure sm7b even more and prefer it over other mics I have. Will recommend it for sure
