Harley Benton Valuestrings EL 9-42 Reviews
Brilliant at any price
I hate paying £6 for strings. I love the 'fresh' sound a new pack brings and for that reason probably change them more than most, and with a rapidly growing collection (addiction) it soon mounts up. So at such a teeny price, these Harley Benton strings are a godsend, and the fact that I defy anybody to tell the difference between these and the usual brands in terms of feel, tone or longevity it is basically a no-brainer. If you haven't tried them, you really should as the rest of us are laughing at you, and let's face it, nobody likes to be the loser around town ;o)
cheap strings
they are cheap strings, you get what you pay for, I will use them if I am stuck and have no other strings in the house.
Value strings
I bought a box of these strings mainly to keep as spares in my teaching studio in case pupils needed to change strings. The packaging is decent, cardboard sleeves in a plastic wallet, and each string is sealed in plastic. The ball-ends are solid metal pellets rather than traditional brass ball-ends. The strings themselves feel slightly less supple than normal sets, and there seemed to be some kind of light lubricant on them when taken out of the packet. Once fitted to a guitar they performed well, and stayed in tune after the standard few stretches. Sound wise, they appear ok, if unremarkable, given the price though, they are great value. Haven't had any strings breaking, so I'd recommend them as backup sets, or for use in schools or teaching studios.
Harley Benton Valuestrings 009
I can't fault them to be honest, I initially though they would be terrible due to the price but I couldn't have been more wrong! They are not as bright straight after being put on the guitar as some well known brands but it's not a bad thing as I find strings generally are too bright initially. They hold their sound well, are very consistent and last a long time. Great job Harley Benton!
Not real great
Tarnished out of the pack, a bit too much stretch when new. Spend an extra few dollars on D'addario's they'll sound better and last longer.
OK for spares, Magnum Les Paul Gold Tops, rabbit traps, or if you work as a hit man ;)
Actually I did throw a set on guitar I was doing pickup magnet swap/mods to and knew they'd be on and off the guitar a few of times while I tried things out, they were perfect for this. I put better stings on once everything was sorted.
Good but not outstanding
For my pro work I buy better one like thos made in the USA, or d'Addario.
Amazing
This strings are just as good as other packs but a a fraction of the cost.
They are well packaged and not too tightly wound in the packet.
This strings lasted me for about 5 or 6 weeks on my main guitar that i play everyday.
I will never buy a different brand of strings again
Excellent Quality At Any Price
I decided to try all of the Harley Benton Valuestrings, to see whether they really could be any good at this sort of price, and I have to say I am more than impressed in every way.
I put this set of 9s on my son's Jackson, and he plays hard and fast, and he was very pleased by the fact that they stayed in tune right from the off - which is more than can be said for his usual Ernies.
In fact the whole range have been surprisingly good. All are quite bendy out of the pack, but fine once fitted. All sound great and feel perfect. In fact I'd defy anybody to play one of my guitars and tell me that they aren't one of the bigger brands.
The only request I'd have is that HB produce sets with a heavier bottom for drop tunings, but then buying a set of 9s and a set of 11s and mixing them to taste is still ridiculously cheap compared to another set. Try them, you'll be as impressed as I am.
Good strings
A good set of strings for a bargain price
Don't be fooled by the price & lack of big brand name they are as good as a lot of strings that retail for 5 x the price.
Ideal for people who like to change their strings regularly.
Strings
I bought 24 sets of these strings a while ago and swear by them. They feel maybe slightly worse than a normal 5 pound set of strings, for the first few days they do not have the band new metally sound that most other strings have, which for me is good, I have always prefered the sound of 4 or 5 day old strings. They are excellent quality, I have used them for several gigs and recording sessions. Best of all for 30 odd pounds I can string all my guitars for months, nearly a year I would say, usually 30 quid would last me a month.
Worth adding that I think they are better than rotosound strings, on par with ernie balls, and just a bit below d'addario quality wise. Will use these strings for life!
Great Strings Whatever The Price
I don't mind admitting I was dubious about these strings and had bought a set of 9s, 10s and 11s to try on a Tele, a Les Paul and a Jazzmaster. Of the three the one that I thought most likely to suffer at the budget end of the market was the 9s as basically they are the thinner and (I thought) most likely to break with a good whack of a heavy pick.
So I put them on my Tele, tuned up and played some seriously heavy stuff for an hour or so, and not only did they stay in shape, there were no breaks and they still sounded as zingy as when I got them out of the pack.
We all spend loads of money on strings, and the differences between them can be quite stark at times, but I can honestly say that I am a complete convert and somewhat gutted that I've spent so much on what are frankly inferior strings in a lot of cases over the years. If you've not tried these, they have got to be worth a punt. Great strings whatever the price.
best strings ever
Best strings I ever bought for this price they are sounding well, I play in a Cover Rock Band and also the feeling with this strings for me is just perfect. Also the sound between the strings and also bendings are quite perfect.
They're good value strings
As the title says, they' re good value strings, excellent for everyday use and practice. Excellent price.
strings
ok for a quick replacement set
Good value strings
great value strings, I have used these on a number of guitars no problems. I would happily use them again. The strings come in a sealed package so all good. Not sure why but the strings seem little longer then other brands, but no problem as cut them anyway.
Cheap strings .... why not ?
I use the Harley Benton Valuestrings for setups and as the spare set i carry in my gig bags. While not as long lasting (with a bright tone) as a new set of 'name' brand. These are not far behind. Great value for money !
Great value strings
These strings are exceptionally cheap. For the price there can be no complaints.
I always keep a few sets of these strings in my guitar bag for when they are needed.
For the price you cannot go wrong with these strings
Great value
I've tried a lot of stings over the years and while these aren't necessarily the best sounding or the hardest wearing, you can't argue with the excellent value. At the very least these will provide excellent backup in an emergency but they are also perfectly acceptable for anyone who hasn't spent an absurd amont of money on a guitar and amp setup.
Problem free
I got these for my Floydrose, which was snapping strings frequently due to hard handling. These strings are magic. No more snapped frustrating strings. And at the price, they are even more Magic.
29.04.15 They are so good, that I bought another 10 sets. Amazing product.
so surprised by these!!!
harley benton have done it again... super cheap product with excellent quality. im not gonna say they are ELIXER quality. but come on, for 1 eure these strings are Awesome and I would definitely take a few spare packs to a gig just incase
