Value for money

Used the SM57s as drum mics (snare, hihat, toms), guitar amp mics and vocal mics. A classic choice if you want an all-around option that is on the low-end, as of its price.

Everyone should own one at least - and more if possible

This is the ultimate recording tool that can be used on nearly everything.

Whether micing up a guitar cab, acoustic instruments, or drums the SM57 is just a mic you've got to have in your arsenal.

A question often asked by guitarists is whether they should get an SM57 or a Sennheiser E609/E906. From my experience. For the price I would suggest buying two SM57s instead of the Sennheiser and micing up and recording two mic placements simultaneously. This is an extremely powerful method that gives you the power of blending tones, which is essential to getting a well-rounded guitar sound.

The difference between these mics is mainly how much they pick up. The SM57 is more precise and will home in on specific frequencies and does this extremely well. The Sennheiser gets a more overall sound and requires less precision when micing up the cab.

What is more is that the Shure simply beats the Sennheiser on versatility. This thing can really record nearly everything and is an industry standard.

A guitar classic

Stick it in front of a guitar cab, play with the placement a bit and you will get great sounds for very little money. It?s also very nice on snares, although you can probably find better mics for that, and it even managed quite a nice sound from a bass cab. It?s built like a tank and will survive maybe more than its owner. I do not have any negatives that I can think of, honestly. Any mic better than this for a particular use will be a lot more expensive, so if you think about buying this mic, just do it. It?s money well spent.

No problems, known quality for rental.

Universal microphone

This is my auxiliary microphone that satisfies my needs when recording instruments or vocals that are predominantly loud-clenched. Personally, I prefer more sound from condenser microphones.

It's SM57, a must have

It's a must have. Works great on wide range of instruments and even vocals. I recommend owning at least 1 of these.

You can not go wrong. If you do not own a mic i recommend trying it out and it's also quite cheap.

Wonderful, does everything you need it to

I use this mic mainly for vocals and occasionally for instruments. I've heard people saying the SM58 is the preferred one for vocals however I feel the SM57 works just fine for vocals especially if you get a windscreen. This mic sounds great, you can get a very clear sound out of it (with a little tinkering in post, such as a noise gate. however that is probably the case with most mics) All in all I'm very satisfied with this mic.

The Legend

The SM57 is probably the most used mic in music industry ever. It was used for pretty much everthing, from guitar cabs (Jimmy Page) to bass drums (Tame Impala). Lots of legendary records feature SM57 on vocals too. It's such a flexible mic, an incredible workhouse. The great thing about this mic is that it's always been quite affordable. It can work as a live mic for almost any instrument too. Every decent studio should have LOTS of 57s. Often you switch between different mics in studio, looking for that sound, you wouldn't bet on Sm57 but then you give it a try and you realize that's it. There's almost nothing this mic can't do. It is simply an industry standard, it always was and always will be.

The legendary all-rounder.

It's really hard to write anything new from this one mic. It's the most used, most industry standard instrument microphone on the planet. And also really cheap!

If you don't want to experiment with what mic would well suited for your recordings, just stick with this one and it will get the job done for almost everything.

Using it to record guitars, bass, snare mostly.

It's an SM57...

...and it's bloody good. Sounds best under the snare in my opinion. Guitar amps don't sound half bad either, just make sure you don't dangle it, point it AT the amp!

Have even used it with a cloudlifter pre-amp on vocals with pleasing results!

The classic

I've used this for years both in the studio and for gigs. I've used it on guitar cabs, drums and vocals.

It's fairly mid-heavy but that's to be expected. Classic tones, gigworthy for days, can't complain. The 57 has its own sound, the sound of decades of rock. It's my go-to mic for anything and everything.

At the end of the day nothing beats a good old 57.

Classic Microphone

When I was younger and knew nothing about mics and recording and setting live stages I kept seeing this mic everywhere, every professional sound engineer had at least 5-6 of those around. Now that I'm more experienced I know why.

This mic is a true workhorse and will do a very satisfying job no matter where you set it, but it especially likes guitar amps and drum snares. I've used it mainly for recording guitars at home and it always delivers. with clarity and warmth and an even round sound, everything I hope to get out of my setup I get effortlessly by using this microphone. Even when I try recording with another mic I also have this one on too. Live I've used it for guitars and also for vocals with success every time. I also have the Shure A2WS matching windscreen and the bag is also a nice add-on.

It's also worth mentioning that this mic will just not die no matter what you do to it. Mine has been dropped from 10 meters high, stepped on, thrown at a wall, had guitar cabinets accidentally set their full weight on it, etc. and it only had one bad-ass scar to show. This mic is rock'n'roll.
