Used them for years

I use these in my Gibson SG for mostly standard tuning and D standard. I occasionally venture down to Drop C and they can certainly handle that.

These strings feel strong and tight and sound great.

The sound is very balanced, especially for a heavy top skinny bottom and they hold their tuning very well once they are played in. I have used Ernie Ball for years now and they are my absolute favorite, not too bright and not too dark. I find that they last about as long as you would expect uncoated strings to last, so no fault on that front.

Ernie Ball - Slinky Top, Heavy Bottom Guitar Strings

My favorite electric guitar strings, which return the tones I love from my Les Paul... great highs and booming lows. Have been using these since I was a kid, and my teenage son uses them too for many of his guitars. Recommended.

Can't fault them

Can't fault these strings. Always consistent in sound and feel coming out of the pack. Not the longest lasting set of strings, but for someone who plays regularly, no strings will last very long, so it shouldn't be a concern.

Personal favourites

These strings are the ones I use on all my guitars, they are perfect both for standard and drop tunings and last about a month or two or even more, depending on how hard and how often you play. On Fender scale guitars, they work from standard to Drop B without losing definition, while on Gibson scales I wouldn't advise going lower than C. The thicker D string makes the G string harder to bend but it's not a huge problem, you only have to get used to it. Also, all the rumors about skinny top, heavy bottom strings warping your neck are completely false, don't worrt about it.

Good quality, perfect balance

These strings have been my strings of choice for almost 3 years now.

The set is really balanced and works well with standard, alternate and drop tunings.

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of the way that a coated string feels, and while these strings can last for one or two months at best they are really cheap compared to their coated equivalents, so it's just a matter of preference. The intonation with these is good all over the fretboard and they can withstand some really brutal right hand technique and huge bends. I suggest you to use this gauge of strings on Gibson scale guitars for Drop D all the way down to Drop B and their standard counterparts (C standard works decently too), and Drop C to Drop A# and their standard counterparts for Fender scale guitars. My only problem with this set is the D string could be a bit lighter because it makes it harder to bend the G string in standard tuning.

My overall suggestion: If you play punk rock, metal, metalcore or rock in general, these might be the set of strings you're looking for, but if you want to shred keep in mind that some bends will be pretty hard on your fingers in standard tuning!

Top quality, best sound

I've been using these strings for years and they have never let me down. The feel is great and the sound is clear and tight. The strings seem to last long time and string breaks occur very very rarely.

Skinny Top, Heavy Bottom

This was the first time I have used Skinny Top, Heavy Bottom string from Ernie Ball. I normally use Super Slinky, but I have recently been playing music which is tuned down 2 steps. This resulted in a lot of fret buzz on the low E, so I thought a set of heavier strings would eliminate this as the string tension would be higher, which it has done. As always, the Ernie Ball strings are of great quality, sound good and are reasonably priced. I tend to play quite hard and have not broken one yet. I would highly recommend the brand in general and these strings in particularly if you play a lot of drop tuning stuff.

Great strings for playing in drop-tunings or playing in D or D# standard. Nice and bright on the top and some nice punch from the heavier gauged bottoms! Sound great in any style.

The best sthings

What else would you expect from ernie ball? Brilliant quality, I've always sworn by super slinkys but these have overtaken them as my new go-to strings, the heavier bottoms are brilliant for drop tuning and the light tops are still great for fast playing

Good strings for Rock in E Standard

I've been using the same set of strings on my main guitar for close to 4 years now, with no desire to switch. The heavy bottom on these provides a very solid tone for heavy blues rock riffs (especially when driven through a Marshall head) and the top feels moderately heavy for solos. These aren't the easiest strings to bend when it comes to playing solos in the upper two registers (for that I'd recommend a lighter model, perhaps a set of 9s) and when tuned below D standard they start to feel rather loose, but for that I feel either a baritone guitar or a set of 11s (or even 12s) may be necessary.

Great strings

These are my favourites because we play in a drop tuning.

Your bottom (top if your looking at it) will be quite heavy, which is nice for anything lower than C# (although we play in that tuning and it's still heavy). This would be ace for something like drop C or just plain C.

You could even try drop B, but I think you would need even thicker strings to go into Drop A or any further.

Heavyness at the bottom, slinky and light at the top, so shredding is an absolute joy too, right before you bang out those open palm mutes on the bottom string, ouch!!

My favourite strings

In every guitar players life there are one type of strings he will always come back to. These are mine. I tried them on several guitars includings Fender stratocasters, Gibson Les Pauls, Fender Telecasters and several others.

What makes these strings my favourite strings for electric guitar is the fact that they have, like the box says, a "skinny top heavy bottom". The heavy low strings are great for blues, hard rock and metal riffs and have a beefy and tight tone. The lighter top strings are optimized for soloing. They deliver a full, bright tone and are perfect for bendings.

My personal favourites.

Reliable Set

I have been using Ernies for a long time and never had a broken string. Maybe some of that can be attributed to luck, but either way, the quality of these is great. I've been alternating between heavy bottoms and regulars, and I have to say: these are growing on me.

Ernie Ball never disappoints. Classic product.

Great strings

Matching the right strings to the playing style and the guitar pays dividends. These are of course top quality strings and this guague seems to work well for me on a Strat.

Just perfect!!

I got these strings because I thought my guitars didn´t have enough string tension on the low strings for heavy metal rhythm. After I put these on and set up my guitar, I was in heaven. I still had the lower tension on the high strings for shreddy leads, and got the increased tension for heavy rhythm playing.

very metal

these strings were a blessing when I got them although the fingers took a while to get used to that big change from the third to the fourth string durings solos but these are excellent for metal, the string tension is ideal for the heavier stuff

I use them on all of my guitars

I use these strings on all of my guitars. On my Fender Strat, on my Hagstrom Super Swede as well as on my Gibson Flying V. The strings are packed in single paper bags and they are easy to put on. When they are fresh the sound of the strings is very clear and sharp. That is why I like them so much. After a few hours of playing (round about 20 or something like that) the sound becomes smoother and is more mid-focused than in the beginning. The durability is average but all in all I only have to change them a few times a year because I am using different guitars. As a result of that each guitar is not played very often.

What I like most on this strings is the fact that the lower strings (E, a and d) are thicker than normally. That is why they have a fat sound especially when you are playing power-chords. My Strat which has not got a big bottom end, sounds much better when these Ernie Balls are put on.

To sum it up it can be said that these strings are really worth the money and I will continue to buy them.

10/10

I like to play rock and so like to have deeper strings to add a bit of bass.

At first, the feel on your fingers is unlike anything you would have experienced but this soon becomes unnoticeable when playing.

There is a massive difference in clarity with these strings than any others i've ever used.

They may be a little pricey but they are so worth the money.

I would however recommend the Cobalt Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings more as the amps are more receptive to the Cobalt, and this gives even more clarity in the notes being played. Not to mention it's only a little more expensive than these strings.

Regardless, these strings are an excellent buy and well worth the money

Sounds and plays amazing.

These are my preferred strings for playing in drop D tuning, which they are perfect for. They have a great, bright, clear sound, even when playing with a lot of distortion. The strings sound good for a long time as well, and for the price they are definitely worth grabbing.

And now I shall reign in blood...

I use these strings with a Cort VX-V2 Flying V with emghz humbuckers. The Guitar is tuned to d# standard, and I mostly use it to cover slayer songs. The thick bottom strings gives the sound a huge bottom end, great for heavy riffing and shredding. The tension of the high strings is low enough for bending , but still tight enough for shredding solos. They work well with the licensed floyd rose tremolo. They give a great clean, metallic tone. Perfect for every kind of heavy metal, but also some clean parts. My go to strings for my six string guitars.
